Donald Trump, speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), repeatedly said that Jews won't vote for him because, since he isn't accepting donations, they will not be able to control him with their money.
“You are not going to support me even though you know I am the best thing that could happen for Israel. I know why you are not going to support me. You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money,” Trump told a full auditorium of Jewish donors and Republican Jewish supporters. “You want to control your own politicians.”
This plays into anti-Semitic claims that Jews control the country with their money. Has he said this to any other group? Has he told evangelicals that they won't vote for him because they can't control him with their donations? No. Only the Jews.
It is totally bizarre that he would say something so offensive to Jewish voters. Furthermore, why would he ever tell any group of voters that they are not going to vote for him? If that's true, why did he even speak to them? It's a defeatist attitude.
I don't believe, on the basis of this alone, that Donald Trump is an anti-Semite, but these statements put his judgement into question.
Furthermore, he displayed stunning ignorance of what is going on in Israel. He said that once he is president, he is optimistic that with his deal-making skills he can bring peace between the Israelis and Palestinians in six months, or perhaps less, if both are "committted" to peace.

What Trump knows is that American Jews really could care less about Israel. Most of them vote Democrat and are flaming liberals. I say this as a person who is married to a Jew and he says the same thing.
Donald Trump is not an anti semite and is very pro Israel. His recent comments have been misconstrued by the press and many Freepers. What Trump said about Israel the other day is that if they don’t want to make peace with Palestine he isn’t going to coerce them into it.
No it does not.
He has told multiple groups he does not want their money because he does not want to be subject to their control.
I never doubted for a moment that Trump is a strong supporter of Israel.
Jews that will support him will support him. period.
Those who won’t, won’t ( and I suspect that would be a majority of them ),
In essence, what he just said won’t make a huge difference one way or the other.
I agree. Trump is not unPC - he is simple one big mouth, with no brain engaged.
I watched and listened to his entire speech. He was warm and affectionate toward the Jewish audience. His daughter and son in law are practicing Jews. He is fine and the posted article is nonsense.
Of his children, Eric and Ivanka are both converts to Judaism, and are rearing their children as Jews.
Trump is not an anti-semite. You are mistaken.
Ed Straker seems to be a Rubio hack who runs a blog.
“Actually if you do not tell what you believe to be the truth, isnât that just pandering?”
Exactly. And Trump is obviously too honest. Even people here are saying he should have lied.
Trump doesn’t filter what he says based on the group he’s addressing. He’ll tell La Rasa that illegals have to go. And Jews that they can’t buy him. He’ll say those same things to anybody else.
An amazing combination of courage and honesty. Politics have been dirty for so ling that he is being vilified for these qualities.
I have seen that also. One gentleman told me if you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you?
He sales real estate in Dubai too. They probably like to hear stuff like this. He’s just a business man. He’s built an empire on talking a lot of crap. He’s the perfect candidate for conservatives, since we also talk a lot of crap, but never back up what we say.
Forget about being Jewish and being offended.
What about being for the principles of the First Amendment and being offended?
Hey Taztit, like Hilary does have a brain.
Are you a Jew hater ?
You can tell the truth without pandering or insulting and someone will still be offended.
I am at the point today I am tired of our side always worried about offending or insulting someone or a group.
You do like Trump, don’t vote for him.
If someone else is insulted or offended, they they should not vote for him.
It is as simple as that.
That is such a lying headline. He said to those rich people at that meeting that THEY wouldn’t vote for him because they can’t control him with their money. It included Sheldon Adel son who has already committed to another candidate. Why would Trump think the guy would support him.
Trump is a huge supporter if Israel. This is such a despicable lying headline.
âYou are not going to support me even though you know I am the best thing that could happen for Israel. I know why you are not going to support me. Youâre not going to support me because I donât want your money,â Trump told a full auditorium of Jewish donors and Republican Jewish supporters. âYou want to control your own politicians.â
He went to talk to a PAC that controls politicians with donations like all PACs do. Trump says they want a politician they can control, which is the whole purpose of a PAC. If he had not said he won’t take their money, the press would have claimed he spoke to a PAC for money.
There are some things you don’t say in politics.
“Blacks are lazy welfare cheats”.
While statistically, there may be some validity to that statement, it doesn’t help you with most voters to make it.
The whole story is false.
OK, let's start off easy.
Did Trump speak to the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC)?
“With all due respect to Trump supporters ... I think he talks too much.”
Nope, it’s actually the plan.
First, he says the same thing no matter the group. It’s his opinion and doesn’t change with the audience.
Second, mainly - it is his way of getting publicity, being the most talked about candidate. He has said ‘controversial’ things since June. Most of which turned out to be true and drew voters to him instead of the predictions of it being the thing that takes him out. But more importantly it keeps him the topic of conversation. Even the other candidates are asked about what Trump said, over and over.
Free publicity, constant attention, saying things people are thinking, - it hasn’t turned out to be a negative yet.
And if you have zero chance with those voters anyway, what is the harm? That they will tell other people that you are a terrible "poyson"? They were going to do that anyway. Come on, give me another reason to be a hypocrite and waste my time being nice to people who despise me down to the ground.
This issue of control and political donations goes back at least to Harry Truman's 1948 campaign. What Trump accuses contemporary Jewish donors of doing, viz. donating to control, is the complaint that one of the Truman women (Harry never said it publicly that I know of) made about that campaign, that three AJC guys came to Harry and said, "do this or else our money all goes to Tom Dewey". "This" was to recognize the Israeli government proclaimed by David Ben Gurion, something the white-shoe antisemites in the State Department were telling Truman not to do.
A History of Zionism treats the meeting between AJC and Truman differently while acknowledging that it took place. In the HoZ recounting, the AJC men simply came to the White House in hopes of meeting Truman and persuading him to recognize the Israeli state. If only they could see him for a few minutes, the historian tells us, they felt sure they could persuade HST to "do the right thing".
