Donald Trump, speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), repeatedly said that Jews won't vote for him because, since he isn't accepting donations, they will not be able to control him with their money.
“You are not going to support me even though you know I am the best thing that could happen for Israel. I know why you are not going to support me. You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money,” Trump told a full auditorium of Jewish donors and Republican Jewish supporters. “You want to control your own politicians.”
This plays into anti-Semitic claims that Jews control the country with their money. Has he said this to any other group? Has he told evangelicals that they won't vote for him because they can't control him with their donations? No. Only the Jews.
It is totally bizarre that he would say something so offensive to Jewish voters. Furthermore, why would he ever tell any group of voters that they are not going to vote for him? If that's true, why did he even speak to them? It's a defeatist attitude.
I don't believe, on the basis of this alone, that Donald Trump is an anti-Semite, but these statements put his judgement into question.
Furthermore, he displayed stunning ignorance of what is going on in Israel. He said that once he is president, he is optimistic that with his deal-making skills he can bring peace between the Israelis and Palestinians in six months, or perhaps less, if both are "committted" to peace.

Well, he just captured another 20% of the black vote I’m thinkin ...
So what he said is not true?
Nonsense. He says this about all big donors. So he meets with Jews and says “I don’t want your money.” This is not about Jews. Let’s get real. He sells real estate in New York. They know what he means.
Insulting voters you are courting is never good form.
Well, there is the context problem.
True he was talking to a jewish group. But honestly, he could’ve been talking to any other non-jewish group that reflexively supports establishment candidates.
The title of the article is... misleading, to be kind.
I heard the comments. They were directed at Jeb, not Jews. He took all this money so his donors control him, and you won’t have that problem with me. Kind of playing fast & loose to imply that Trump was dialing up Jewish stereotypes.
Has anyone noticed the criticism of American Jews by non-Jewish whites (and the reasons for their success) often is similar to the black criticism of white success?
You can’t ‘Jews’ and ‘money’ in the same sentence, apparently.
RE: So what he said is not true?
What does he mean by “they”?
Why not treat Jews as individuals instead of making a sweeping statement characterizing EVERY JEW as if they are similar.
SS/DD
Just like you can’t say “African-Americans” and “fried chicken”. Just ask Fuzzy Zoeller.
As a conservative Jew let me say: that is one dumb-ass thing to say to a roomful of conservative Jews.
[Trump told a full auditorium of Jewish donors... ]
Considering his audience, he was just being honest.
Enough with the hurt feelings already!!!
What is wrong with this dude?? Did someone give hime psychotropic drugs before he talked to these folks, or does his blatant anti-semitism just come naturally??
I have a very low opnion of trump. But I never even guessed that he’s a Jew-hater.
Golux - it truely is a dumb thing to say to a Jewish audience. I watch and wait to see if this is really what he said or just spin.
. . . he can bring peace between the Israelis and Palestinians in six months, or perhaps less, if both are "committted" to peace . . .
It is a true statement with a big if. Sort of like saying I could be a woman if I had been born with indoor plumbing.
In what way was it “dumb-ass”?? It wasn’t anti-semitic at all.
As a conservative Jew, was he your top guy before he said that?
