Donald Trump has surged far ahead of his Republican rivals in Florida and leads a hypothetical matchup with Democrat Hillary Clinton in the biggest swing state, according to a Florida Atlantic University poll released Wednesday.
The reality TV star and real estate mogul, a part-time resident of Palm Beach, leads the Republican presidential field in Florida with 36 percent, the poll found. His closest rival, Sen. Marco Rubio of West Miami, trails with 18 percent, followed by Ben Carson, of West Palm Beach, with 15 percent.
"Despite conjecture that Donald Trump has plateaued, his support in Florida remains very strong and could be growing," said Kevin Wagner, associate professor of political science at FAU.
Former Gov. Jeb Bush of Coral Gables was fifth in the poll with just 8.9 percent, down more than two percentage points from a prior poll in September. Sen. Ted Cruz, a Cuban-American from Texas, got 10 percent in the Florida preference poll.

Looks like Dr. Ben’s ‘Orange’ is running out of juice.
He may need to pull up a chair at the Kiddie Table for their next debate. What a come down that will be. Hopefully Trump doesn’t gloat (too much) when it happens.
Here’s hoping the Manatees aren’t mean to Trump.
So 90% want someone other than Jeb, in his home state. Tell me again why he’s still in the race? Oh yeah, money.
WINNER TAKE ALL!! Thanks to the GOPe!!
WOOHOO GO TRUMP GO!!!
TRUMP=AN AMERICAN FIRST!!!
I LOVE those oranges!! :)
Like I said early on, Jeb should have listened to his Mom. His Mom knew his run would fail.
As for Marco, I worked neighborhoods in support of him and became very disappointed later. As far as I am concerned he needs to just stay in the Senate or go home!
President Trump. 12 more months.
I don’t see Carson dropping below 5th for a while, so I don’t think he will be relegated soon. Dropping is one thing, but a complete collapse is something else.
Go Trump!!!
And did you see the general election match-ups too? Trump leads Clinton by 8 points (49%-41%)!! Also, he posted a big lead over Clinton in Colorado today too (48%-37%). So much for the electability argument!
Floridians are stupid. Carson and Rubio? Really?
Trump up double digits today in Connecticut, Florida, and New Hampshire. Colorado, Trump 3rd. Proof that marijuana laws are having an effect on something.
Super Smart Ben, pro-amnesty FReepers hit hardest
Floridians will go for Trump. Rubio will come in second but we have a winner take all primary...and closed. Its going to be settled by who gets to the polls.
