Has any of the Republican primary candidates mention support or no support of Article V convention? I'm disappointed it's not part of somebodies Stump speech.
Is it that the issue is little understood? Any ideas on how any of the candidates stand on the issue?
Ted Cruz has voiced solid support, and he has been the most vocal on following the Constitution of any candidate.
Jindal has voiced some limited approval, especially WRT a balanced budget, term limits.
Rand Paul, similar to Jindal.
Huckabee and Kasich seem favorable to it...
I think that the remainder have steered clear of the issue completely. While that is not strictly definitive, it still speaks volumes of their position during a period of time when they need to get their positions and “non-positions” known.
Don’t see any evidence of Trump weighing in on COS. For a front-runner, I find it unsettling Trump also does not refer to the Constitution much, for this Constitutional Conservative.
If Levin has Trump on his show, this is a must topic to discuss.
If you think Trump is knowledgeable of the Constitution in the same way as a seasoned politician or historian, you’re missing the point. Trump is a reactionary. He’s going to be this nation’s “protest vote” against Obama. We’ve ceased being a rational constitutional republic and have degraded into a populist democracy. It’s all a big popularity contest, and Trump is winning despite his substance.
I still hope and believe Ted Cruz will be our modern day Patrick Henry and spark revolutionary reforms.
It was explained to me at a Tea Party class an Article 5 convention is a two-edge sword. The founders sent their representatives to the convention to “fix” the Articles of Confederation, but they wrote a new Constitution instead. Same thing could happen here and the Soros folks already have a new Constitution already drawn up, so we were told.
...and the other relative issue would be the fact that the USSC has been engaged in a running article V convention for quite some time. No one seems to have the spine to bring that power play to a screeching halt through nullification simply not buying the opinion of the court.
They have no right to do so, but will continue unless they are stopped.
There isn't a worldly power that cannot be abused, but at no time in history did reps of the people or the people themselves sit down to enslave themselves.
ever read the story of pandora’s box? this isn’t something you can control. the minute it opens, the ‘progressives’ with the backing on their media allies will take over and use it to shred the constitution, especially the second amendment. you won’t be able to stop it.
There is no risk as the US Constitution is a deal letter at this point. We need a CoS to repeal the 16th and 17th amendments.
ping
Oops.
Article V ping!
Weve ceased being a rational constitutional republic and have degraded into a populist democracy.
That is right. Well said.
It’s all so superficial now.
Your tea party class, when talking about a two-edge sword, is bent on one edge of that sword - the status quo. The COS is all about upsetting that. Instead of from that class, go to the source and read up.
Even aside from Trump's possible awareness that the Constitution exists, introducing the COS into his message will only make it more complex, and will create new angles of attack against him. Perhaps that's what his people are telling him.
BTTT.
That may be... but it is unsettling, when it is such a potent issue for me.
OTOH, I suppose some consolation can be taken from the amicable relations between the top COS supporter candidate, Cruz, and Trump. At least for now.
He hasnt read the constitution..because...yes...”He’s not In It!”
