For all the derision that Donald Trump dodges, one has to wonder if indeed he's dumb, but more like a fox. What appears lately to be a staple in The Donald's arsenal is a savvy move of chess masters: The Zugswang.
Zugzwanghttp://www.chess.com/chessopedia/view/zugzwang [ˈtsuːktsvaŋ]. A player is said to be "in zugzwang" when any possible move will worsen his position. German word meaning "obligation to move."
Such was Jeb Bush's pickle this week when arch rival Donald Trump observed in his signature just-sayin-style that 911 was the responsibility of George W. Bush.
Playmaker geeks might debate that Trump's principle play was a screen (he invoked the paired image of W and 911), a ping (he hinted that 911 was W's fault) or a call out (an unvarnished chiding of the Bush II presidency). In fact, the play was a veiled bait of Jeb.

Interesting explanation coming from the HuffPo. From my business experience it does seem Trump is baiting these guys like a chess master.
Ping.
“Zugzwang for the Zugzwanker!
Oh my. What an impwessive zugzwang you have there, Shewiff!
I see they still have Trump news in the entertainment section, while now admiring his acumen. Wonder how long that can continue.
It’s called thinking on your feet, something I am horrible at.
And, it makes you wonder if these folks are smart enough to know they are being outsmarted.
There is a YouTube Video with The Donald being Interviewed by two of his Children. Don’t have the link, saw it a few days ago. I’m sure it’s easy to locate.
You see a serious Guy talking about the Real Estate Recession / Depression in the early 90’s and explaining why his Company survived it while others didn’t.
I think it gives a look into his thought process when dealing with Business decisions.
I think he has thought all these things out. Trump is REALLY smart.
I’d say that Jeb shot himself in the foot on this, but that would overlook the fact that Trump maneuvered him into pulling the trigger. I don’t know if it was calculated on Trump’s part or just fortuitous. But I think Trump may be better at the game than he lets on.
Hadn’t thought of it in chess terms but it does describe Yeb’s position.
The low energy tortoise picked up the dynasty millstone and placed it firmly around his own neck.
Trump’s wheels are always turning. While other’s sleep, The Donallold thinks, and plots his next chess move.
Only exception to that is Ted Cruz, who has positioned himself to be the white knight poised at the edge of the battle, and who is fighting against the GOPes (in a sadly quixotic fashion) even while a member himself. Takes guts to call your party leadership cowards and partners in crime with the Dems.
Still, the fact that this presidential race is led by two complete outsiders this far in speaks volumes about the depth to which Americans are completely disgusted and finished with the GOPe.
Die, GOPe. Die.
Donald is playing off the foil of greater America. Jeb! is selling his ego. Donald is selling what he’s been hearing from America that it wants. Egos are going to lose in that game, guaranteed.
“Donallold” = gobbledygook; should be Donald, obviously, above.
I never figgered out chess.
I see it as a fella running a trot line and letting the silly fish bite whatever hook he runs into.
Jeb can’t even figure that one out.
He is a natural born Negotiater.
Was it possible he learned this type of maneuver at NYMA ?
