Syria's Kurds Are Contemplating an Aleppo Alliance with Assad and Russia

10/9/2015 7:24:00 AM

Fabrice Balanche

..............Currently, the Syrian army still controls a third of Aleppo, which is connected to the rest of the government-controlled zone by a narrow road. But this corridor is being squeezed by the Daesh/ISIS on the east and al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra on the west. To win the battle for Aleppo, Assad will therefore need to cooperate with the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Syrian franchise of the Turkish Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). The PYD is eager to connect its cantons around Kobane and Afrin and open a corridor to Sheikh Maqsoud, the Kurdish district of Aleppo. An October 1 al-Monitor interview with PYD leader Salih Muslim suggests that the group may be seeking a strategic alliance with Assad and Russia in order to achieve that goal.

Every nation should know by now that obama cannot be trusted.

They do. The damage this one man has done to the United States of America is incalculable. As it was intended by his masters.

Putin needs to get the Kurds some AA assets.

“Before it’ over, the following ME countries will be in the Russian sphere: Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq (some or all), and Yemen. And the Palestinians (although not a country). Did I forget any?”

Yes, you did. http://www.timesofisrael.com/russia-israel-talks-on-syria-military-coordination-to-open-tuesday/

I heard that when Russia launched those cruise missiles into Syria they crossed over Kurd territory and were greeted with cheers. Probably just a coincidence.

Yup, Turkey needs to be booted out of NATA either that or the USA should get out of NATO. Turkey is on the side of the Islamists, ISIS. I’ve long held that Turkey now that it is no longer in secular hands does not belong in NATO.

Because Putin is more trustworthy than OBama ever will be. Our MSM call Putin a thug but they have no title for Obama.

I think it is a 1990's version of the Balkans. Iraq and Yugoslavia were very much alike. Politically constructed, made up of several ethnicities, controlled by strong dictators, the government and military controlled by an ethnic minority. Strongman gone, ethnic strife reignites.

Making the Russians pay for their moves by having a proxy bloody their nose a bit is okay. The Russians won't get too alarmed by that. Hanging out our own troops by running cargo drops to the rebels is a bad idea. The Russians will have very little problem lighting a cargo plane up with a SAM and blaming it on somebody else. They didn't have any trouble shooting down an airliner in the Ukraine, and they even used a system that could have only come from Russia.

I always go to the source and couldn’t read the end so I found another copy...

One thing this would do after all ends and new borders created, if completed, is chop up Iraq.

this makes sense. The Kurds get a stretch of land in northern Syria, separating Syria from Turkey

I'd be happy seeing Turkey taken out by Russia --

Return the Hagia Sophia to Christendom, build a larger Armenia, recreate Assyria and Ionia

Not Yemen -- too far away and too split between Sunni and Shia (also the Houthi version of Shia'ism is much closer to Sunni Hanafi than to the 12-er Shia of the Iranis)

You forget Israel. Most likely Israel would tie up with a Russia that would guarantee it's borders much more than an Obama led US would do...

Egypt is an exception — the other Arab “armies” are jokes or riven by sectarian splits

It always was that way — Assad never bombed the Kurds. Assad has protected the Christians and the Druze (and of course Alavis) from being slaughtered by Sunnis.

If Assad goes, Qatar will build gas pipeline directly to Turkey, undermining #Gazprom according to @GazetaRu So that’s what it’s all about.
