Attorneys for Tyler sent a second cease-and-desist letter to Trump's campaign committee on Saturday.

LOL!!
i think Perry is pretty conservative with his politics.
That kinda depends. Trump certainly would be required to pay royalties. But unless he's using it in an ad to sell a product, he should be good, same as it playing in a restaurant etc.
On the other hand, nothing stops someone from filing suit, founded or not.
Copyright law is very complicated made only more so by Congress intervening now and then to protect people.
I think people are still trying to figure out the intricacies of the 35 year old reversion rule.
And don’t underestimate Disney protecting Mickey. I am sure when the time rolls around again someone in Congress will help them out.
The opening bass riff from [My City Was Gone] "was something that Tony Butler used to play just as a warm-up," said Steve Churchyard, the engineer for the record. It has been used as the opening theme 'bumper' for Rush Limbaugh's popular American talk radio program since 1984, during his days at KFBK in Sacramento, California. He didn't use the lyrics, but Limbaugh said in 2011 that he chose it because of the irony of a conservative using such an anti-conservative song, though he mainly liked its "unmistakable, totally recognizable bass line." In 1999, Rolling Stone magazine reported that, according to Hynde's manager, Limbaugh had neither licensed the song nor asked permission to use it. According to Rolling Stone, EMI took action after Limbaugh told a pair of reporters in 1997 that "it was icing on the cake that it was [written by] an environmentalist, animal rights wacko and was an anti-conservative song. It is anti-development, anti-capitalist and here I am going to take a liberal song and make fun of [liberals] at the same time." EMI issued a cease and desist request that Limbaugh stop using the song, which he did. When Hynde found out during a radio interview, she said that her parents loved and listened to Limbaugh and she did not mind its use. A usage payment was agreed upon which she donated to PETA. She later wrote to the organization saying, "In light of Rush Limbaugh's vocal support of PETA's campaign against the Environmental Protection Agency's foolish plan to test some 3,000 chemicals on animals, I have decided to allow him to keep my song, 'My City Was Gone', as his signature tune..."Wikipedia
Related to that, if not the subject of this thread, Tyler was so sure Mama Kin would be the song that made Aerosmith that he went out and got his “Ma Kin” tattoo. I don’t get it. It’s an okay little blues number, but was never destined to set the world on fire. Dream On was the obvious game changer.
Looks sorta Bruceish. I refuse to say the new name of the former Olympic star.
yeah, i’ve heard about teh Mickey fight brewing up.
I’d bank on Disney.
Not the same.
He probably needs a Sync license.
Edward called Sammy when either McCain or Romney used a VH song, and Sammy said, “Man, I don’t care if they use it!” Eddie would try to stop Trump, I’m sure.
The truth of the matter is this: a copyright is only as good as its holder, and its holder's defense of the copyright.
If Tyler didn't defend the copyright to "Dream On" that would mean anyone would be able to use it anytime for any reason and NOT compensate Aerosmith for the song.
Copyright holders have to show defense of their work in order to maintain the copyright.
That's the law. Tyler's simply doing what he's supposed to do to defend the copyright.
It's nothing more than that.
He also has permission from Dee Snyder and Twisted Sister to use the song.
Trump doesn't have permission from Steven Tyler/Aerosmith.
Can Hillary still use “Dude looks like a lady”?
Isn't license implied? Trump would be required to report usage of course. It's been a while since I worked for record labels.
Chrisst! now I am gonna get sued by Donald Trump, Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar and the rest of the band!
By the way, the big long orange bar happened due to Noah Webster of Dictionary fame and his relative Daniel Webster who helped push the law through Congress.

Have you forgotten the battle Rush went through over his theme music a few years ago?
I think they finally caved for a massive sum.
Except for the alcohol part, this is a perfect song for ole “Donny Boy”!
