Mitt Romneys top political adviser says he has talked about the possibility of a brokered convention with the 2012 presidential contender but not in the way one might think.
Stuart Stevens explained the context of his brokered convention conversation with Romney during an interview on Hugh Hewitt show Wednesday, guest-hosted by this writer.
We have talked about that, but not about some scenario where he would pop out of a hat, Stevens said when asked whether he has heard the words brokered convention cross Romneys lips.
Some on the right have speculated about the possibility of Romney re-emerging as a contender at the Republican National Convention if no current 2016 Republican candidate is able to win enough delegates to win the nomination on the first ballot.

Look at his DR.Evil style ‘retreats’ where he summons all the candidates to kiss the ring. And they go!
He’s not done. Maybe...MAYBE as a candidate. But not as a kingmaker wannabee and thats even more dangerous.
YESSS. I am damn tired of being bullied by closet democrats.
How many delegates have been awarded? Trump is way ahead of where Romney was at this point in 2012. Of course he could still lose, but to someone like Ben Carson or someone else who is perceived as a non politician, not to an also ran who couldn’t close a sale to the worst president in at least the last century.
I’ll vote for his opponent in the general and against every GOP person on the ticket.
Fair warning.
> Guys like this are never done folks. Ever.
Not as long as he is the only Mormon contender. They are nothing if not persistent.
Check my tagline, FRiend.
With that you should get a third party Trump.
His best shot at the nomination would be running as a DEMOCRAT. Seriously.
How well do you think Romney would do against Hillary, Sanders and the other nutcases on the left? Seriously?
Hugh Hewitt, the “Tin Ear of Politics”
This is all about one thing. Donald Trump. The GOPe has moved from depression into acceptance that Trump may well get the nomination and they are now trying to think up some way to screw him out of it. Its not going to work but they still have to try.
Win. His record IS a mirror of Barrys.
I heap attention on him because 70,000,000 million people forgot how to vote like Americans interested in constitutional governance, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness... and will do it again at the drop of a hat. Or the first time some liberal strikes up the ‘The Dem is worse!” band again. As usual. Every election.
History is what it is.
But WHY would the GOPe need a brokered convention? People like Tokyo Rove are telling us Yeb Bush will be the nominee even if he has to court the delegation from the state of Mexico to get it.
So, if Plan A (Jebster) is a dud, time for the GOPe to go to Plan B (Mittens).
I was speaking only metaphorically that his chances there were much better than with the GOP. Slim as opposed to none.
Trump said no such thing.
Have you seen whose running? Sure he could. they demonized Hillary against Barry. she’s running. They support Abortion. Romney is very pro abort, a global warmist and hits every hot button they love.
Of course he could. Do you think Democrats have integrity? History begins for them every morning they wake up.
And our side ain’t much better.
You want nightmare factory? On another thread right now I got a freeper telling me about Romney’s ‘Level headed’ ideas about Russia and calling me a russian propagandist for dissing on Mittens.
I voted for Romney in the general election because he was the nominee- but no freakin way could he win on '16.
(IMHO-He lost the election the day he voiced the 47% comment. He will NEVER be able to live that down.)
We don't need him . We have an excellent, not to mention large, field of candidates.
We don't need another one.
