Mitt Romneys top political adviser says he has talked about the possibility of a brokered convention with the 2012 presidential contender but not in the way one might think.
Stuart Stevens explained the context of his brokered convention conversation with Romney during an interview on Hugh Hewitt show Wednesday, guest-hosted by this writer.
We have talked about that, but not about some scenario where he would pop out of a hat, Stevens said when asked whether he has heard the words brokered convention cross Romneys lips.
Some on the right have speculated about the possibility of Romney re-emerging as a contender at the Republican National Convention if no current 2016 Republican candidate is able to win enough delegates to win the nomination on the first ballot.

I’ve noticed a lot of squirming in that bed of maggots lately.
“....if no current 2016 Republican candidate is able to win enough delegates to win the nomination on the first ballot.”
Don’t bet on it!
Yea I remember a lot of oh so wise freepers who told me to STFU and that Romney was done and to let it go.
Guys like this are never done folks. Ever.
Great we get another Democrat
Well Romney is a Democrat. A basset hound could call itself a doberman too. But it’s still a basset hound.
These people are deaf, dumb and blind to the current political climate.
If we do not want Jeb, why would we want Mitt.
Shoulda made a stronger effort 4 yr ago. Too late now.
are the Repubs nuts ?
They always telegraph their punches months in advance and when they finally land one, it takes out all the other repubs.
Well let Mittens try and broker convention. I will vote HILLARY if they give me Mitt sandwich. And who knows Mittens might get a few of Hillary’s votes. I AM DONE WITH KARL ROVE AND THE CIRCUS OF FAUX ELEPHANTS AND RINOS. The sooner the GOP Big Top Tent collapses the sooner we can take it back and maybe try at a fix if its not too late. I am officially of the Outsiders party. Cruz, Trump or Carson!
Mitt will have about as much pull at the 2016 convention as Rick Santorum had in 2012.
If he is polite, he might get a non prime time speaking spot. Everyone knows what Trump said about Romney recently is true. He could have closed the sale in the second and third debates. He chose not to do so.

Obviously he’s not. He pops up fairly regularly to torpedo conservatives. Not sure how that qualifies as ‘done’
70,000,000 people that didn’t ‘want Mitt’ sure voted for him and his baby BBQing ideas. Not against Barry. FOR Romney.
There is no box for against on a ballot. And they lost anyway. So, empowered by his overwhelming support, here he is again.
If Trump has a plurality of delegates yet they connive their way into nominating someone else, there will be riots.
This loser, who, like Trump said, “choked....choked like a dog”, just needs to go away.
If anyone is on Twitter, let him know we’ve all said NO!....
@MittRomney
His tweets are quite telling, as well...

Any attempt to take down Trump, who supported him so generously in 2012, will only put him deeper into the Powell territory of irrelevance. The Democrat base admires treachery, the GOP base not so much.
How many delegates has he won?
I remember last night when the Steelers had the game won when they stopped Flacco on 4th down.
If they go for a coup like this I will write in Trump.
