Ben Carson has surged into a statistical dead heat with Donald Trump in the race for the 2016 GOP nomination, a new poll shows.
According to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday, Trump still leads the race, with the support of 21% of Republican primary voters across the U.S., but Carson follows with 20% well within the polls 6-percentage-point margin of error.
Just weeks ago, Trump was still the clear front-runner but Carson has been steadily gaining on him since Trumps average performance in the second Republican debate earlier this month.
And just one month ago, in the July NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, Carson attracted only 10% support, compared with Trumps 19%.
In the latest poll, former tech exec Carly Fiorina and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tied for third, both getting 11% support, while former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush came in fourth with 7%.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz followed with 6% and 5%, respectively, while no other candidate received more than 3% support.
Meanwhile, NBC/Wall Street Journal polling of the Democratic candidates, also released Sunday, showed their race for the nomination tightening too.

6 Point margin of error?!?! How many people did they poll - 50?
When Cruz passes Bush...
As a business colleague from Britain used to say...
Lies..
Damned lies...
And Statistics...
Response to this “information” is expected as the Educational model for years has been one of responding correctly rather than creative thinking...
Dangerous minds and all that, Black Sheep who will not stay in the “victim pens” like the others...
Yup, I have been a Black Sheep all my life and I am not changing now!
I am sure the question set included such unbiased questions as “you wouldn’t waste your vote on a vulgar troglodyte when you had the chance to vote for a brain surgeon, would you?”
Trump said that he didn’t need pollsters because of all the others he could use for free.
Looks like that ‘free look’ period is over.
Now he’s going to have to hire honest pollsters to fight these manufactured polls.

I know, the Trump haters will mock why I just said.
Guess that Muslim thingy didn’t hurt Ben at all!! LOL!! Take THAT, Lefties!!
as predicted. Just like the Romney and McCain poll, it was a set up by the MSM to first gain “credibility’ then manipulate the polls so the MSM can easily target the weakest and more lefty candidate later on.
Nope— they actually polled 230!
Please, please elect the guy the lamestream media can control.
If anything, that is why Carson doubled down on the Muzzie thing.
LOL
Think about this, outsiders Trump, Carson and Fiorina combine for 52% of the vote. Jebbie Bush, the one that the GOPe have handpicked for us, continues to languish in single digits
This year the voters are having none of it. We are not going to be stuck with another Bush. Or a Romney. Or a Dole. Or a McCain.
I was thinking that as well.
With a six point MOE, you might just as well use an internet poll.
Publishing that poll is really a stretch.
He said what 75% of the country thinks.
Only thing is this. Snarly is not an outsider, though she claims to be.
But one thing seems to be clear. No one wants to vote GOPe.
He is pretty ethical but still like affirmative action like many in this race, but he has not been a builder or employer which is what we need IMO at this time.
I don’t think he would even be qualified to be a VP.
LoL pathetic.
I agree on Carly but I don’t think we need to worry about her in the long term. Just too many negatives and as soon as the “fresh face” effect wears off, many voters will be turned off by her.
Garbage poll. 6% margin of error means a sample size of between 200-300, completely useless for anything. Waiting for the Morning Consult poll to come out tomorrow to see what’s what. Trump was at 32% there last week.
