"Colbert bests Trump."
That was the title of a Politico story by Ben Schreckinger about Donald Trump's appearance last night on CBS's Late Show hosted by Stephen Colbert. Huh? Did Ben see the same show as everybody else because your humble correspondent was surprised at how amiable the interview was. You can see most of the interview below and judge for yourself. Here is part of what Schreckinger wrote in trying to score liberal points at the expense of Trump in contrast to rather friendly reality:

Shrug. They got his name right.
It’s Politico - enough said.
Sometimes people see what they (desperately) want to see
Right. Gotta say, though, again, Colbert was like Elf It was a great suited Will Ferrell bouncing around james caan’s office office
He acted like a hyperactive juvenile, not to be confused with an adolescent of the type
It’s embarrassing that he even has an audience
It looked like a visiting uncle reacting to his sister’s child who no one happened to mention, was not quite right. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, just that no one mentioned it and the uncle has to be polite
That’s what it looked like
Colbert seemed charmed by The Donald and was quite deferential toward him. They even seemed to like each other. The atmosphere is very different when two people are face-to-face with each other instead of viewed from afar.
Why does Donald Trump remind me of General George Patton?
One of the most depressing spectacles of my 55 years is watching intelligent presidential hopefuls go on comedy shows in which they humiliate themselves. Now, I didn’t watch this, and I’m sure Trump did fine but - still - do we really need our people to be doing this? We live in “interesting times” and at some point we are going to have to get serious and ignore the shallow interests of late night television.
????????
the razor-sharp comedian, who has a knack for skewering self-serious politicians.
It’s very depressing, this new reality. Started with W pecking Oprah on the cheek, then Zero dancing with Ellen. Up until around the time of Lincoln, it was considered unbecoming for politicians to campaign, AT ALL. How our founding fathers would be turning in their graves. Disgusting.
Especially with candidates kissing Hollywood’s ass.
I watched Steven Colbert for the first time in history just to see the Donald. And it seemed like a fun lighthearted interview. I have no idea who this guy usually does interviews and will probably never watch him again...
but it seemed like an ok interview

Last night I watched “Young Mr. Lincoln” starring Henry Fonda and directed by John Ford. A beautiful evocation of a past America and, yes, an idealistic presentation of our 16th president. I’m not ashamed it reduced me to tears.
How I long for a return to dignity and seriousness in America. I blame Bill Clinton for lowering that bar. As well as some portion of the American public.
Is that your creation?
Yes my photoshop in part taken from a genuine Gulliver pix online
So did I. Colbert did nothing to embarrass Trump. That being said, the real winner is Jimmy Fallon. That "Trump interviews Trump" segment is an all-time classic. Colbert didn't come close.
The mistake is thinking these shows are comedy shows, they are hard leftist political commentary shows laced with sarcastic comedy.
When the Boxers or Briefs question was asked I figured we were pretty much over as a Republic.
