Donald Trump should be scared of Marco Rubio
VOX ^ | 09/18/2015 | Zack Beauchamp

Late in the second Republican debate, "high energy" Donald Trump was sounding sleepy. When moderator Jake Tapper asked him about his history of flubbing it on basic foreign policy issues, he just sounded tired. "The world is blowing up around us," Trump rotely responded. "We will have great teams and great people."

Sen. Marco Rubio, whose campaign trail attack on Trump prompted Tapper's questions, pounced.

"You should ask him questions in detail about the foreign policy issues our president will confront, because you had better be able to lead our country on the first day," Rubio said to Tapper. "Not six months from now, not a year from now, on the first day in office, our president could very well confront a national security crisis. You can't predict it. Sometimes you cannot control it."

Trump's response — "I am not sitting in the United States Senate. I'm a businessman" — was basically no response at all. It was a devastating indictment of the Donald's qualifications to be president, one well-pitched to a party that's become increasingly anxious about world affairs since the rise of ISIS.

But it was much more than that. The Trump-Rubio exchange, overshadowed by some of the flashier showdowns in the media post-mortems, was one of the most important moments of the night. It showed that Marco Rubio is the most viable Republican Trump-slayer: an articulate, confident conservative with foreign policy expertise that far outstrips the other major candidates. His poll numbers make him look like a dark horse, but last night's debate revealed that Rubio has a real — and increasingly viable — shot at winning the nomination.

Just liberals trying to “help us” with our candidate selection again. Nothing to see here. Waste of bandwidth.

I will vote for my soiled underwear before I vote for amnesty-Rubio

And I will vote for your soiled underwear before I vote for amnesty-non-amnesty Trump.

Trump's latest statement on illegals "I have to tell you, some of these people have been here; they've done a good job; in some cases sadly they've been living under the shadows," Trump said in his telephone interview. "We have to do something, so whether it's merit, or whether it's whatever, but -- I'm a believer in the merit system. Somebody's been outstanding, we (ought to) try to work something out."

Sound pretty close to Rubio's position.

Well, there certainly is a much better way to fill three hours with an actual debate. The moderators should be in the background and all candidates should discuss and debate the SAME SUBSTANTIVE issue amongst themselves with probably fewer candidates overall. The last hour could be questions for each candidate from either the audience or the moderators limited to what they actually said during the previous two-hour series of discussions. I laid out my suggestions on a post yesterday. It would be informative and worthwhile.

I have nothing against outstanding illegals, who are DEPORTED FIRST, and THEN evaluated how outstanding they are. If you do not understand the difference between that and Rubio’s position, which involves NO DEPORTATION, then I am afraid you are a lost cause, IQ wise.

Marco Rubio is a metrosexual pandering wanna be RINO.

Phoney as a plastic Florida lawn flamingo.

I wistfully recall when the conservative world celebrated his victory in the Florida Senate race in 2010, when he ran as a solid Tea Party conservative. Though it's been less than five years, it now seems like a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Many took the bait by biting not knowing what they bit into.

That is a valuable lesson many of us learned over Eric Canter.

I actually missed this exchange. Rubio was right, and Trump was, as usual, defensive and lame

Did you really just draw a conclusion in the next sentence, after you acknowledged you had no basis to draw a conclusion? Wow.

FWIW, I'm not a Rubio hater. I hope he catches on that the invasion of the US is destroying the country. That being said, I'll do my best at being objective.

Rubio was VERY GOOD in the debate. He sounds like someone who has done his homework while in the US Senate. He comes across as a genuinely patriotic US citizen who respects his roots and loves his country. What I took from the exchange is that Rubio could be a good VP match for Trump. Their backgrounds and strengths compliment each other.

JMHO

Since Rubio will be out of a job after the election, he will be like Santorum and Ron Paul — a professional runner-for-president.

“KNOWLEGEABLE” politicians have been running our foreign policy since Korean war and I do not like the results.

It started with shah of Iran removed, giving it radical Muslim Ayatollah’s.

And now we will continue by removing Assad who is the only person keeping ISIS from taking over Syria.

What you posted has me thinking. It makes no sense that in a three hour debate there wasn’t a 15 minute break in the middle. Were the ptb hoping that Trump would look tired and old by the end of it?

All that glitters IS NOT gold, that is for a fact.

Don’t go eat the yellow snow where the huskies go.

However Ted Cruz has shown his battle scars and creed to be a worthy candidate for conservatives.

How much you wanna bet that Marco Mubio IS NOT the nice guy he portrays himself to the public ?

Standing on my feet for 3 hours, and listening to the nonsense questions and answers, I would pass out, and would have to be carried out on a stretcher.

I am actually impressed none of the candidates over age 60 needed any help!

100 percent yes......optics are everything......first CNN said it was 2 hours......they purposefully made it 3 hours......the lights were HOT........HOT.....HOT......making them look like Richard Nixon in 1960. Nothing is done by accident. A 70 year old man should not be standing for 3 hours I don’t care who thinks I am wrong about that.......if he were running for cashier of a grocery store then perhaps that was appropriate to ensure they could do it, but there is not a single job as President where he will have to stand for 3 hours.....NONE.....putting on the flowers on the Unknown Soldier may be 40 minutes max and that to me is one of the most important jobs for President (out side of foreign policy and military).
