Donald Trump: Legalize ALL the Drugs [wayback machine]
The Daily Beast ^ | August 8, 2015 | Asawin Suebsaeng

Posted on 09/07/2015 1:58:59 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

".....The reform-minded Trump of decades past is a far more attractive figure than his current incarnation, at least in the eyes of the pro-legalization advocates of today.

“Well, I certainly think he had it right in 1990, and what he said then actually seemed to understand the situation,” David Boaz, executive vice president of the libertarian Cato Institute, told The Daily Beast. “My sense is that looking for consistent philosophy or even policies in Donald Trump’s statements is a pretty fruitless exercise.”

Boaz also pointed out that Trump recently voiced his support for medical marijuana, and that when asked about Colorado, the 2016 GOP contender essentially said that states should be able to decide on legalizing recreational weed. “That actually puts him on the liberal wing of Republican presidential candidates in terms of drug policy,” Boaz continued.

“I’m much more surprised that [Trump] ever got it right than I am that he’s getting it wrong now,” Matt Welch, editor in chief of Reason magazine, wrote in an email. “Probably goes to show that if you spend decades just mindlessly and confidently blurting out whatever comes to mind, you’ll eventually hit on the right answer.....”

...“What I’d like to do maybe by bringing it up is cause enough controversy that you get into a dialogue on the issue of drugs so people will start to realize that this is the only answer; there is no other answer,” he said 25 years ago...

I have no problem with all legalization. If you dont have discipline and destroy yourself thats on you. Everything was legal anyhow before the progressives took over early last century.

The only people who think alcohol=drugs when it come to prohibition are people on drugs. THINK ABOUT IT!!!

Bullshit. The Prohibitionist mind is the epitome of leftist, nanny state authoritarianism.

Anyone with a brain knows that alcohol is the worst drug on the face of the earth.

Alcohol is responsible for more assaults, murders, domestic violence, health care costs, vehicular homicides, misery, and general poor judgement than all other drugs combined.

Despite that, there's not a person on this earth who deserves to go to prison for merely possessing it.

The same is true for various plants, medicines, and the like.

Prohibitionist reasoning is used to justify all manner or Tyranny. No-knock warrants, searches without probable cause, asset forfeiture; embracing such expansive views of state power leaves NO room whatsoever for true Liberty.

Having "crimes" which are supposedly committed by people who aren't infringing on anybody else's rights creates a phony framework wherein individuals must choose whose flavor of Tyranny is the most palatable: the left's or the right's.

No thanks. I'll take actual freedom, with all of its warts and challenges. Competing flavors of Tyranny I reject.

Education, not legislation.

"So you figure 5 million dead wood druggies die in your scenario?"

Is that all? They can't face life without addled brains.

Realistically, why should the government support them? I just saw a documentary about a man who set some kind of record as the fattest man alive. 800#, 100% UK government support. He had 4 workers whose job was to wash him, 4 times a day, since he couldn't stand up, and his urine and feces were trapped in the rolls of fat. This was all on the government dime, because of his food addiction. Special beds, re-enforced floors, when they finally decided to do a stomach bypass, there was talk of a Seaknight helicopter to move him to the hospital. It was disgusting.

Maybe the Germans had a point. Life without living. He CHOSE to do this to himself. No one held a gun to his head. Same thing with druggies. These are not birth defects, or combat casualties. It's easier to justify than abortion.

I will always favor the death penalty for those who deal hard drugs. They have to be dealing a large amount. Go above a certain threshold. But death is too good for them. You can think whatever else you like.

Say someone is dealing heroin or LSD in the kilo range. Try him and hang him. You really have a problem with this and call it tyranny? I don’t get it. The real tyranny is him tyrannizing others such as parents by making these poisons widely available.

I despise marijuana but am not including it. Hope this helps you think this through.

That's another argument for legalization: sellers of legal drugs (alcohol, tobacco) typically card for age, whereas sellers of illegal drugs never do.

>>>Trump believes that assault weapons should be banned, “who needs them except criminals and police<<<

Assault Weapons are already Illegal unless you have a Federal Firearms License or are owned by a Police Department or the Military.

Assault Weapons are Select Fire, not Semi Auto.

Are you saying that he was discussing Semi Automatic Rifles?
I heard him comment that Semi Auto AR-15’s are not a problem and are not Assault Rifles.

Maybe you have him mixed up with Dr. Ben Carson.

Just clarifying so other Posters aren’t confused by the Terminology.

Scott Walker? LOL! Are you really pimping that moron? Dropped out of Marquette with a 2.6 GPA, and never had a job in his life outside politics? THAT’S who you compare with Wharton grad and billionaire Trump? What do you think of Walker’s loudmouth liberal wife? That ok with you? A freaking trainwreck that family. Please stop posting crap about that doofus.

Anyone who thinks MJ is the gateway drug has never tried to stop smoking. How many users of MJ or harder drugs have you ever seen who did not start with cigarettes and/or booze. I have known alcoholics who also used MJ, and while sometimes nasty on booze, they never were on MJ.

In Washington, DC it was found that over 90% of all MJ arrests were of black people although about half of users were white. Also it was found that 2 1/2 times as many youth were arrested for MJ as were graduating from high school. So last November, 70% of voters approved a referendum supporting legalization of marijuana. Republicans in Congress have forbade DC to implement any laws on this legalization. Thus, although certain rules were spelled out in the voted referendum and are being followed, the DC government cannot approve any laws to tax or otherwise regulate MJ except for what the referendum approved. No wonder the 650,000 people of DC want to be a state. Can you imagine Republicans in Congress telling the smaller populations in Wyoming or Vermont that kind of BS?

Having worked in the field, ANY substance of abuse is a gateway drug. The population of DC should consist of elected officials (IOW, in state-owned housing) and foreign nationals residing in embassies, and no one else.

Irregardless of whether Walker can be “resurrected”, (he’s the best choice, period and I’d not bury him by a damn sight because it’s GD September, a better performance in the next master debate and he’s back on track) or whether he leaves the race tomorrow, RINOS like “frontrunner” Trump should be opposed and I thank Cincinatus’ Wife for her efforts.

I too have worked in the field with PTSD and child abuse victims. The base cause of addiction is severe emotional pain, occasionally physical pain. Thus, any pain killer is potentially addictive, however, cigarettes and alcohol (being legal) are usually the gateway substances. I have found the most effective treatment is a combination of really good nutrition including supplements and intense emotional discharge of the traumatic incidents of the past and sometimes the present.

Regarding DC, it is proposed that only the small ceremonial central areas like the Mall, the monuments, Congress, Supreme Court, White House, museums and other nearby government buildings be called DC. The rest of the city where the 650,000 people live should become a state since that is more people than Wyoming and Vermont.
They shouldn’t have to worry every time Congress talks about shutting down the government that they can’t even spend their own DC tax money to pick up the garbage, renew a drivers license, get a marriage license and other basic services. Wouldn’t you be up in arms at that treatment?

No, I wouldn’t live there in the first place. No one should be living there.

Can’t make DC a State, you’d get 2 rat Senators. Can’t give it to Maryland either, you’d end the already slim chance of Republicans winning there and burden the already tragically overburdened taxpayers of Maryland with dead weight.

I don’t really give a damn if a bunch of ignorant democrats don’t get votes in Congress, in fact, I’m glad, that partially offsets all the extra seats states like Cali get cause of illegals. No one is making them live there. It’s a shame they were given electors for President. Imagine if the next election is 270-268.

Only idea that makes any sense, make a new state from DC plus it’s lib suburbs in Maryland and VA, VA would become Republican again and Maryland would turn into a small swing state. This would reduce rat voting strength in the Senate and electoral college rather than unacceptably increasing it.

Baring that, Congress should abolish their local Government and install a conservative to administer the city, they’ve proven they can’t govern themselves, even a RINO douche would do a better job. And I don’t give a damn if they think they should be able buy weed at 7-11, they’re idiots. That last thing urban populations need is even more drug use.

You’ve said that before. He’d have needed to start running after only a few months on the job, a questionable decision. That he chose not to do that is a silly reason to oppose him if you ask me. Made sillier by the fact that Trump flirted with running in 2012 and did not. One could say that was HIS time just as easily.

DC should not be a state, nor did I say it should be. The original status of DC should not be changed, IOW, moving there should mean disenfranchisement (or, voting in one’s home district if one is an elected official), or residency should not be permitted.

Gleeaikin said it should be a state, or at least seemed to support that, I pinged you also cause you were the one he was talking to when he said it.

Anyhow, as I said AFAIC the less voting the bastards that live there do, the better. Giving them 2 Senate seats out of some sense of “fairness” as that other poster seemed to suggest, would be madness, like giving Iran the bomb.
