Donald Trump: Legalize ALL the Drugs [wayback machine]
The Daily Beast ^ | August 8, 2015 | Asawin Suebsaeng

Posted on 09/07/2015 1:58:59 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

".....The reform-minded Trump of decades past is a far more attractive figure than his current incarnation, at least in the eyes of the pro-legalization advocates of today.

“Well, I certainly think he had it right in 1990, and what he said then actually seemed to understand the situation,” David Boaz, executive vice president of the libertarian Cato Institute, told The Daily Beast. “My sense is that looking for consistent philosophy or even policies in Donald Trump’s statements is a pretty fruitless exercise.”

Boaz also pointed out that Trump recently voiced his support for medical marijuana, and that when asked about Colorado, the 2016 GOP contender essentially said that states should be able to decide on legalizing recreational weed. “That actually puts him on the liberal wing of Republican presidential candidates in terms of drug policy,” Boaz continued.

“I’m much more surprised that [Trump] ever got it right than I am that he’s getting it wrong now,” Matt Welch, editor in chief of Reason magazine, wrote in an email. “Probably goes to show that if you spend decades just mindlessly and confidently blurting out whatever comes to mind, you’ll eventually hit on the right answer.....”

...“What I’d like to do maybe by bringing it up is cause enough controversy that you get into a dialogue on the issue of drugs so people will start to realize that this is the only answer; there is no other answer,” he said 25 years ago...

Feb 13, 2014: Scott Walker: Big difference between having a beer and smoking marijuana

CanaBadger: Timeline: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker on marijuana

......March 31, 2015: In response to a question about marijuana legalization at a luncheon in Phoenix emceed by conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Walker said he opposed legalizing marijuana, citing a conversation he’d had with Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney, a Democrat.

“I mean, it’s left of Pravda,” Walker said of the political views of county residents, which he compared to the Communist Russian newspaper.

“Even there, the Democrat sheriff said to me last year when this issue came up, ‘Whatever you do, please do not sign the legalization of marijuana,'” Walker said. “This was a guy who spent his whole career in law enforcement. He was liberal on a whole lot of other issues. But he said it’s a gateway drug.”

Sept. 9, 2010: The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel posted then-gubernatorial candidates Tom Barrett, Mark Neumann and then-Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker’s positions on legalizing medical cannabis:

Do you support the legalization of medical marijuana?

Scott Walker: No. Federal law still classifies marijuana as a Schedule 1 narcotic and I believe state law should reflect this as well.

Got anything on him from the 70s. That’s what I can’t wait to see...

This 1990 stuff, it’s just too recent.

Even though it is NOT a narcotic! It is a hallucinogen.

There is a huge difference between cannabis and booze! Cannabis doesn't cause nearly the problems that ethanol does! People don't get murderously violent from cannabis unlike booze. Ask any cop which one they'd rather have to deal with.

Proof Hussein is NOT an American citizen, and not black. Cannabis prohibition was created as a new way to enslave colored people. PERIOD. If Hussein was really a black American, legalization would have been day 1.

2012 Presidential Candidates: Trump position on Gun Control

• Donald Trump generally opposes gun control.

• He thinks that every law abiding citizen should have a gun if they want to.

• Trump believes that assault weapons should be banned, “who needs them except criminals and police?”

• He wants a longer waiting period for hand guns, rifles and shotguns. We should be able to tell within 72 hours if a person has a record or mental issues that would prohibit ownership.

Gov. Walker ends decades-old waiting period for handguns

"...The governor, who was joined Wednesday by Republican lawmakers and families who supported the measures, has been an outspoken supporter of gun rights. Walker previously made Wisconsin the 49th state to legalize concealed carry — even in state buildings — and signed a "castle doctrine" bill giving homeowners more legal protections if they shoot an intruder.

He also has a 100 percent rating from the National Rifle Association and spoke at the NRA's annual meeting in April. The NRA in a statement Wednesday called the bills' signing a "victory for gun rights in Wisconsin."........

You’re doing it again. This is 2015. It’s not 2003 or the 1990s.

Mrs Will spends all her time digging up negative articles on Donald. This is going to change our minds to vote for Walker -is it not? In her dreams. I want to see articles from the 60s too - got any, Mrs. Will?

personally I’m for legalizing marijuana and other recreation drugs. It’s no difference to alcohol and this war on drugs is a war on personal responsiblity

The “60s”?

You mean the decade John McCain started his 5 1/2 years of torture in a communist prison camp?

Let’s have Trump do a hypnotic regression to a past life, so the anti-Trump can really find some relevant dirt. Which senior military officer from the Confederacy will they find that he was. Maybe go further back and find he was a part of the conspiracy to assassinate Julius Caeser in 44BC? That’s a good one!

He is a good governor, that is what he will remain.

Trump NEEDS to correct his outrageous statement that the USSC makes laws. I.e., that “gay marriage” is “the law of the land.”

Donald Trump helped elect Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi with his financial backing. Trump praised Hillary and has contributed to her - along with Chuck Schumer and other Democrats that wrought the havoc of Obamacare. Trump lined up with those calling for universal healthcare.

When Gov. Scott Walker entered office January 3, 2011, he signed his state on to the lawsuit against Obamacare the same day.

Holy Cow! The farce is strong in you, much stronger than it was with Perry in 2012. But then again, Walker has not offered up two of the three agencies. But he has had three stances on one issue, illegal aliens.

Shocking. Another negative post about Trump by CW. It’s really a tie between you and Nick Carraway for most annoying anti-Trump Freeper. Although i think you win because Nick just comments, whereas you spend your whole life mining for old stuff that Trump said a quarter of a century ago...who cares?

In 1990 I was pro-choice as a college student. Today as a father of two I couldn’t be more pro-life. 10 years ago I probably would have shrugged my shoulders and said a ‘path to citizenship was ok’. But now I realize what an existential threat to our nation it is and we should deport them all. Maybe Trump changed some positions too. I don’t care. But he is the only one even talking about a solution to our immigration nightmare, talking about a $20T debt, talking about our lousy trade deals and deficits, the VA. Actually, Trump is the only one talking about putting America and Americans first. The rest have talked and done nothing when elected. I’m willing to give Trump the chance because he’s actually produced something tangible with his life and gets things done. If he just solves of our immigration problems, he will have done the greatest service he can for this nation.

Susan Sarandon drinks water. Therefore, if you drink water, that proves you are therefore in league with Susan Sarandon and an enemy of Western Civilization.

William F. Buckley wanted drugs legalized. His reasoning was why destroy representative government just to get rid of them. I personally disagree, but people can disagree.
