Muslim Flight Attendant Says She Was Suspended For Refusing To Serve Alcohol
By Emanuella Grinberg and Carma Hassan September 5, 2015
(CNN)A Muslim flight attendant says she was suspended by ExpressJet for refusing to serve alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith.
In a bid to get her job back, Charee Stanley filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Tuesday for the revocation of a reasonable religious accommodation.
She wants to do her job without serving alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith -- just as she was doing before her suspension, her lawyer said.
"What this case comes down to is no one should have to choose between their career and religion and it's incumbent upon employers to provide a safe environment where employees can feel they can practice their religion freely," said Lena Masri, an attorney with Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Stanley, 40, started working for ExpressJet nearly three years ago. About two years ago she converted to Islam. This year she learned her faith prohibits her from not only consuming alcohol but serving it, too, Masri said.
She approached her supervisor on June 1 and was told to work out an arrangement for someone to fulfill passenger requests for alcohol.

Not for Christians.
One knows when one is hired that alcohol will be served.
She knew that was part of the job when she signed up and clearly knew it when she went through training. It should be tossed before the ink even dries.
Not to worry, because it’s against her muslim belief, SHE WILL GET HER JOB BACK and will not have to serve alcohol. But Kim Davis who the federal government is trying to force to go against her religious beliefs, well don’t you know Christian beliefs no longer matter. GOD forgive this once great country.
I would not fly on a plane with a muslim flight attendant or a muslim anything else.
A very weak case. She is being asked to serve it, not consume it. The person to whom she serves it may or may not drink it, as they see fit. The purchase or the dispense of alcohol has no connection to her religious beliefs because she is not the seller. Her employer is the seller, therefore she is not “taking the price” from the customer.
So it has been written.
Heh heh heh ...
The alcohol is in a sealed bottle. She will not be affected by it. Same for check out clerks who handle wrapped bacon.
Excuses are like a** holes. Everyone has one!
She needs to find a new job. Goat herder for the boys perhaps?
Unless you are Muslim.
Indeed.
Moslem refuses to do job - suspended.
Christian refuses to do job - jail.
Big difference. Of course, one is indeed a “private” company and the other is government....but then, I guess gov. does suspensions, too. Hhmmm.
Or....they like to be dominated by the husband and his other 3 wives.
is that anything like not issuing a marriage license to gay couples...the clerk is now in jail.
Toss her butt in jail..
“It’s the law of the land” !!!

Is Moslem speaking about Kim Davis, the Christian ???
Of course not Muslims are the privileged class
/s
converted to Islam????does she ever read anything??? Islam is not the friend of females. I understand that whatever airlines fly under the isis banner are hiring nitwits like her....
“How can she fly on a plane with alcohol on board?”
Easy, no alcohol allowed on board flights she is on... /S
And seriously, make Obummer wade it on this ... oh, right, we have seen the Muzzie-in-Chief guzzlin’ beer. But of course the Prophet has given him special dispensation.
The US Constitution does not prevent employers from discriminating for any reason whatsoever. The constitution was only written to ensure government did not discriminate against citizen, i.e. equal treatment under the law.
Once we started meddling in this stuff during the civil rights era, we opened the door to constant conflict over which rights are more important. Does religious freedom, for example, force employers to hire employees who cannot properly perform the job requirements?
This stuff was so much easier when the government stayed within its constitutional bounds.
