Rand Paul defends Donald Trump’s response to ‘gotcha’ interview
Washington Post ^ | 9/4/15 | Davie Weigel

Posted on 09/04/2015 7:48:27 PM PDT by z taxman

From the moment he walked onto the Republican debate stage in Cleveland, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has been Donald Trump's most relentless critic. He has called him a "fake conservative," a "chameleon," a man who "buys and sells politicians." Long before former Florida Jeb Bush hit Trump with a video of his most liberal statements, Paul had his campaign team on the case.

Yet in a Friday interview with Michael Smerconish, first spotlighted by Mediaite's Matt Wilstein, Paul got a chance to mock Trump's stumbling "commander in chief interview" with Hugh Hewitt. He did not take it. Instead, he defended his arch-rival from the vagaries of ambush journalism.

...

"You know, I’m not big on defending Donald Trump by any means," said Paul. "And I’ve been one of his fiercest critics. But I think it can be sometimes hard to hear the difference – if you’re talking about hearing. I sometimes don’t hear well – between ‘Quds’ and ‘Kurds.’ Also, the pronunciation is a Q, and not a K, but it sounds like a K."

Paul, who wears a hearing aid, also compared Hewitt's line of questioning to other "gotcha" interviews that were unfair to candidates. "I also do think that running through a list of every different Arabic name and asking somebody to respond to them is maybe a little bit of a gotcha," he said. "I do think knowing the difference between Hamas and Hezbollah, knowing the difference between Shi’ites and Sunnis, and knowing the history of what’s been going on in the Middle East, is important for next leader. It’s also a lot easier if you’re preparing for the interview and you have all the names in front of you."

I agree. What Hewitt did was sophomoric to be kind. All Trump needs is the big picture. He will get the small details and briefings if he becomes President.

Hugh Hewitt makes his living in that world. Talking about what others should do while people like Trump actually do what others just talk about.

As Mark Levin opines in Arabic; "Yabba Dabba Doo".

Hugh Hewitt has never built a mud hut in his life. His job is to pontificate, and try to look intelligent.

United States has the most idiotic foreign policy in middle-east (M-E) already. I can’t think of anything more dumb than protecting oil flows to China and Japan from the M-E with borrowed money from China & Japan, while we do not need 1 barrel of oil from M-E.

So, let me see, we sacrifice blood and treasure, get paid nothing, pile on $2,000,000,000,000 additional national debt on which we must pay interest every year, dismantle dictatorships in Iraq, Syria, Egypt & Libaya to be replaced by Islamist regimes every where, give birth to ISIS who now owns lot of Iraqi oil, and now Iran controls what is left of a broken Iraq.

ISIS was impossible if Saddam was left alone. Not a single WMD was found in Iraq. It was all a brilliant bluff by Saddam to hold off the stronger Persian country of Iran to attack and conquer Iraq.

And Hugh Hewitt is wondering if Trump has memorized names of terrorist thugs in the M-E?

Trump was among the very few who had the vision to oppose Iraq war. Bush-43’s Iraq war will go down in history as the biggest blunder of US foreign policy since the Vietnam war. Then another blunder by Obama to prematurely withdraw all troops from Iraq while we still keep 35000 troops in Korea?

Trump is absolutely right. Our leaders are stupid. Actually they are mega-stupid.

Not a single WMD was found in Iraq.

Doing pretty good till you hit that one.

They were found in Iraq, moved to Syria, where militants were recently about to get their hands on them, Putin offered to "dispose" of them.

There are photos of the facilities and truck caravans hauling them out of Iraq in the weeks of delay while the UN was jerking the US around.

That evidence will be laughed off in courts. At the most Iraq could have had some excess chemical weapons which were absolutely no immediate and present danger to the security of United States. Certainly not worth the enormous sacrifice in blood and treasure, with the resulting chaos we find ourselves in. Like I said, Saddam needed some mysterious rumors of WMD’s to keep Iran from executing expansionist adventures on Iraq.

As if the weapons were the only reason for the war.

The dirty little secret is that ISIS would be impossible if not for Obama, not because of Saddam removal. Iraq was stable, until Obama start arming rebels across Middle East from Libya to Syria. ISIS is a creation of Obama

Hewitt never made it big because he is the establishment. Nobody wants to hear him talk about how great Karl Rove is IMO.

There was plenty of WMD that Bush never trumpeted about.
There is a major storage site in Iraq that ISIS captured.
A bunch went to Syria. Bush and Russia scammed Saddam into shipping out most of the nuclear items to Russia before the war. Quite a bit was buried. Some was dumped into the river. The older stuff made up a large part of the Iraq finds. The so called hydrogen balloon truck was a mobile WMD system. (No balloons) The had a nuclear processing facility in the West. But WMD issue really just made it easier for the democrats to sign on and not offend their base. Iraq is the key to the whole war on terror. And just like South Vietnam, the democrats turned a reasonably good situation into a disaster. Obama’s/Hillary’s foreign policy has been indistinguishable from treason. Every move has been designed to perform genocide on Israel. The discovery of the tunnel network was a real set back. The reason for the war in Syria is to make up for the muslim brotherhood loss in Egypt. They want control of a major military on Israel’s door step.

A—>B-—>C

A = Iraq invasion & removal of saddam

B = Obama removes all troops prematurely from Iraq

C = Birth of ISIS.

Without A, B would be impossible.
Without B, C would be improbable.
