Rowan Co. Clerk Kim Davis will stay in custody

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, a Democrat, will stay in custody.

It was a circus in Ashland today, as media, and protesters on both sides of the Kim Davis controversy came nose-to-nose outside the courthouse.

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis appeared before U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning at 11:00 this morning, Bunning had her taken into custody finding her in contempt for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. Bunning told Davis that she would remain in jail until she complied with his order.

Davis said “thank you” and was taken from the courtroom by a U.S. Marshal. Davis was not taken out in handcuffs.

Judge Bunning then called Mrs. Davis’ six deputies into the courtroom, they were told they were free to issue licenses to all applicants while Davis was held in contempt, but if they did not comply they too would face fines or jail time.

Five of the six clerks said they would issue the licenses, the only one to hold out was Mrs. Davis’ son Nathan.

Judge Bunning was not done with Davis though, calling her back into court at 3:30 this afternoon, but Davis did not come. Instead she stayed in custody, her attorney appearing before the judge to tell him that she would not allow any employee to issue licenses in her absence.

Judge Bunning says he will keep Davis in jail for at least a week, and said “I hope that everyone will remain civil. This country has always had disagreements, but what makes this country different from other countries is that we respect the rule of law.”

I guess since I agree with you that makes you vile also. But, our views have been shut out and neglected by the elected republican leadership that campaigned on protecting and respecting us.

Now it's time to act or scurry for refuge.

Five cowards who will have to live with this shame for the rest of their lives.

Excuse me. You stated that she should have resigned or quit the position.

That is scurrying away for refuge. She is staying the course, which you complained about.

If you still feel that way then we do NOT agree.

The Supreme court is a political tool. There must be a mechanism to get some of the rot removed. Furthermore, term limits must be set.

The damned Republicrat Party rubber stamps nominees and we end up with the likes of Sotomayor , et al.

Nominees need to take their oath with one hand on the Bible and the other on the Constitution. There are as guilty of destroying America as is Skeeter Mommyjeans.

The law of the land is an ass!

This contemptible evil government is in such grave error that it has forfeited the right to govern!

We have Senators being bribed with cash to vote for the nation killer of a nuclear treaty, lawlessness rampant in the department of state, accomplices sitting on the Supreme Court, George Soros owns the crooked voting machines making our elections a sham, etc. etc. etc.

Same sex marriage is not only an sinful abnormality it has no business being ‘the law of the land’.

I didn’t look up the county. It is rattish, voted narrowly for Grimes, for Romney in ‘12, narrowly for Obama in 08’, fro Kerry, narrowly for Bush in ‘00, strongly for the rat against Rand Paul in ‘10, almost 60% for the rat against Bunning in ‘04. For McConnell in ‘02 (landslide for McC) and ‘90 (close race) but not ‘08 ‘96 or ‘84.

I presume it doesn’t elect Republicans to local office.

The judge is Bunning’s son. Or maybe the bastard son of Bunning’s mailman (nah, he looks like Bunning).

A rat clerk (the good guy er gal) versus a conservative GOP Senator’s son (the bad guy), jeez.

I think you've confused me with someone else.

Mr. Bunning is absolutely worthy of contempt.

It is certain he will reap one day that which he has sown.

The above is not the immediate context, but I think it is also generally true:

Galatians 6
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
...
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Precisely.

Ecclesiastes 5
8 If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.

“I guess Judge Bunning was not aware of this writing.”

Right, because obviously Mr. Bunning cares about righteousness and would always do the right thing regardless.

/sarcastic mode off

;-)

Exactly how does he derive his authority...solely from force? The lawless cannot appeal to law because it condemns themselves.
