Donald Trump on WDBJ-TV shootings: ‘This isn’t a gun problem; this is a mental problem’
The Washington Times ^ | 08/27/2015 | David Sherfinski

Posted on 08/27/2015 6:00:03 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said in the wake of Wednesday morning’s shooting deaths on live TV of a reporter and videographer in Virginia that it isn’t a gun problem but a “mental problem.”

Asked Thursday on CNN’s “New Day” if he would do something different about gun policy, Mr. Trump said: “Well, I don’t think I would, because this is really a sick person. This isn’t a gun problem; this is a mental problem.”

“Frankly, you know, a case like this, he snuck up on ‘em. Whether it was a gun or a knife or whatever it would have been, it would have been something,” Mr. Trump said. “But you know, you’re not going to get rid of all guns, so I know one thing: if you tried to do it, the bad guys would have ‘em, to use an expression, and the good folks would abide by the law. They’d be hopeless and. … it would be a hopeless situation for them, and I think it’s a big mistake.”

“if I were a scientist and could scientifically prove the basic existence of either God or hell”

This may interest you. There is a class of mathematical proofs for the existence of God called ontological argument for the existence of God.

My favorite is the one done by Kurt Godel. He is most famous for his Incompleteness Theorem. He was also a friend of Einsteins. Walked him everyday to Princeton, and Godel even did some work on Einsteins relativity theorems.

“Its a spiritual problem.”

Although I agree with you that spirituality is being suppressed in society, there are practical issues in this case regarding how to recognize and deal with someone who has a serious mental health problem.

I heard one of the anchorwomen from that station last night saying that this guy had to be escorted out of the building by the police when he was fired, and the police warned them about him. They obviously were aware that this guy could do something dangerous. If you feel strongly enough that someone is potentially dangerous, there has to be a way in our system to deal with this before there is a disaster.

If the police felt he was a danger to his co-workers they could have had him involuntarily committed for psychiatric observation. Did they? The problem we have in this country is we do not want to deal with mental illness, we are so afraid to violate the rights of mentally ill people that we put many others in danger. The police have the right and obligation to put a psychiatric hold on people they believe are mentally ill and a danger to others or themselves until a professional can assess their condition. It is often used when people threaten suicide but rarely used to protect others.

That was my guess. The shooter is either a race terrorist or a ding.

But all really doesn’t really matter, as it was not the gun to blame. Just like Trump stated.

Personally, I advocate for a right-wing reactionary fascist tyranny, with the hanged bodies of leftists decorating the streets of every town, and full-to-capacity Lubyanka-like torture facilities, with the leftists constantly screaming in agony, and a radio channel dedicated to broadcasting their screams for all to hear. I advocate right-wing death squads screaming through the cities on souped-up motorbikes, gunning down anyone even suspected of harboring a single left-wing thought, in broad daylight.

He wasn’t mentally ill. He was evil.

You have no clue about that. He could have been a nut cake, evil, a race terrorist, evil or whatever.

Bottom line it was not the guns fault as Trump suggested.

Trump is right on about this.

Of course he is. And it doesn't matter what he is or is not. Ding, nut, evil, racist etc.

Those capable of critical thought understand, it certainly wasn't the guns fault or the car that took him to the live news shoot.

It’s only funny if there is an element of truth to it.

This is why he’s so far ahead of everybody else. He resonates with those that don’t have blinders on. He called it out - it’s not a gun problem.

Most of us realize that. And most of us know what their real agenda is with many of the folks DC. Their agendas with bad intent are really obvious.

I am no expert on mental disorders or what caused this guy to do this.

I do know that these people could maybe have saved their lives if they would have had a little bit of situational awareness.

Maybe not the cameraman but the newswoman or the lady being interviewed should have seen the signs of an angry black man approaching them.

From what I read yesterday there were not many blacks in the area so an angry black should have stuck out like a sore thumb.

It is a travesty that they will not be around to see their loved ones again. People must train themselves to have their heads on a swivel not up their rears.

There’s a reason why the majority of the worse mass murderers in American history have been self-loathing homosexuals. Dahlmer, Gacy, Wayne Williams, Pee Gaskins, the list is endlist. Add this sadistic sodomite to the list. That’s the discussion the media should be having, but they are controlled hook, line and sinker by the homosexual fascists that run the American media, including Fox News.

You’d think that right wing news outlets would have long been eager to play this up, rather than it being a new topic; and even yet correlation does not equal causation.

Mayor Bloomberg blames Virginia for many of New York’s gun crimes
2013

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg blames Virginia and several other southern state’s for the Big Apple’s gun crimes — so now he’s set his Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ sights on the Deep South for a Second Amendment crackdown.

“Despite all we do to keep our city safe, we’re increasingly at the mercy of weak national gun laws and weak gun laws in other states,” Mr. Bloomberg said, according to The New York Post. “We have been attacking this problem from every angle, but we cannot do it alone.”

He cited Virginia as about the worst, in terms of allowing guns to flow into New York.

In 2011, guns from Virginia were involved in 322 violent incidents, he said, The New York Post reported. He also said that guns from states other than New York were used to commit 90 percent of the city’s crimes in 2011 – and that’s up from 85 percent in 2009.

Mr. Bloomberg is using those statistics to push for national reform on right-to-carry laws. His chief of staff, John Feinblatt, said if states like Virginia only implemented common-sense provisions, then violent crime rates would fall.

“Take Virginia,” he said, at a press conference at City Hall. “That state requires no background checks for private sales and the legislature in that state even recently rolled back their state laws by stripping their one-gun-a-month purchase limit.”

But hey, it's not just NYC that's flooded with guns from Virginia, they supply Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C., pretty much the North East corridor. Boston, I don't know ask them. So if you're exporting gun violence don't even complain when it comes home to roost. BTW, I'm not against guns or owning them but I am against the unstable and criminals possessing them and Virginia makes it easy to run guns.
