Ever since Donald Trump, the mercurial businessman, media personality, and presidential candidate, proposed his immigration policy, centering on the mass deportation of up to 11 million human beings, reaction among conservatives has been decidedly mixed. Ann Coulter, for whom illegal immigration is the alpha and the omega of public policy, exalted that Trump could perform abortions in the White House, and she would not care. But Charles Krauthammer, writing in the National Review on Thursday, and George Will, in his latest column published Saturday, provided reality checks.
Krauthammer wondered what the practical political effects would be of reenacting the Trail of Tears on a mass scale would be on the Republican Party, poised as it is on the edge of its greatest victory since 1980. His answer is not very hopeful.

Will, on the other hand, concentrates on how big government would have to grow to implement Trumps plan.

............. Even Ted Cruz, no slouch where it comes to illegal immigration, realizes that this would require a constitutional amendment, a dubious prospect at best.
The upshot is that there exist practical ways of dealing with illegal immigration that most people would not find abhorrent. These include securing the borders with a wall, cracking down on people who overstay their visas, eliminating the abuse of H1-B work visas where some companies are replacing American workers with cheaper foreign workers, and dealing with the illegals that are already here in some way that is not as obnoxious as mass deportation and not as craven as amnesty. Trumps proposal, at least according to Krauthammer and Will, would likely lead to a liberal president who would enact mass amnesty, creating millions of Democratic voters that would reduce the Republican Party to permenant minority status.

“The problem is, there is no redemption for some DemonRATs.”
I think that is true, literally. I believe God offers only so many chances to “get it right”, and there comes a time when He writes you off and redemption is off the table. For instance, those senators and congressmen who won’t defund Planned Parenthood have had opportunities to do the right thing but have refused. Their eternal futures aren’t going to be pretty. (Obviously not Christians or they’d fear standing before God and judgment.)
Here’s what needs to be done to end illegal immigration-enforcement of current law, adoption of Senator Jacob’s (author of the citizenship clause) defination of the scope and intent as to who is under the juristiction of the US and qualifies for citizenship under law, reinstatement and expansion of the 287G program to allow local law enforcement to act as a force multiplier for ICE, and an Article V adoption of a ban on block and blanket amnesty in any form.
we can do it, it just means growing government massively.
or we can use common sense, stop the entitlements, let e verify work it’s way up to speed, and secure the border - and watch the situation unravel itself over a period of just a few years....at least to the point that it is no longer something that threatens our sovereignty.
GWB grew government exponentially after 9-11 -much of it ineffective and un-necessary, which is how governments ALWAYS turn out. This is that on steroids potentially.
Who is we? You have 25 million SWAT members at YOUR disposal?
I never said they weren’t.
When the laws are not enforced (be it on the border or in Ferguson) and law enforcement is attacked by lawbreakers, as well as their bosses, we’re all in big trouble.
Seriously, these folks are flat out loosing touch with reality.
Flat out fear and desperation by the GOPe beltway talking heads and a dose of GOPe prescribed sugar pills via Walker, the script reader.
“the jurys still out on TRUMP..”
He’s proposing things that are more conservative than 90% of the R field, 100% in some cases. More conservative than Reagan, with illegals.
I’d also like to see $500/illegal and $5,000/company employing illegals bounties.
What positions has Trump supported that you feel makes him less likely to be a true conservative?
Talk is cheap.
Why should voters keep electing candidates who can’t do anything about the destruction of our country? That is how we got into this mess.
Who gives a flip about political loyalty??? How about America loyalty???
Let’s call it the trail of tacos!
Trump has at least ‘flipped’ to the correct way regarding immigration.
How many other Republican candidates (or office holders) decline to enunciate a rational position on immigration that is actually in accord with existing Law? How many of that same group seem to be baffled by Trump’s polling?
This is not really all that difficult to figure out. Our politicians are failing us and Trump is filling the void.
