The governor is still leading the pack of GOP contenders in his home state, but his margins have narrowed, according to a poll.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is still leading the pack of Republican presidential contenders in his home state, but his margins have narrowed as Ben Carson and Donald Trump see growing support, according to a Marquette Law School poll released Thursday.
The poll shows Walker ahead with 25 percent, followed by Carson at 13 percent and Trump with 9 percent. Walkers numbers have dropped from 40 percent in April when he had not officially entered the race. The Wisconsin governor is also seeing a drop in approval among his constituency. His approval rating is at 39 percent, with his disapproval rate at 57 percent, according to the poll reflecting a 3-point difference from April.
. Thats notably underwater, poll director Charles Franklin told reporters while unveiling the results.
Meanwhile, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton enjoys a sturdy lead at 44 percent, with Sen. Bernie Sanders following at 32 percent. Like Walker, Clinton has seen her lead narrow since April when she polled at 58 percent before Sanders joined the race.
In a general head-to-head matchup, the poll found Clinton leading Walker by 10 points.
Separately, the poll shows the race between former Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold and incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson narrowing, with Feingold leading 47 to 42 percent, closer than in April when it was a 54-38 margin.
The poll was conducted Aug. 13-16 and included 802 registered voters. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
He trails badly in adjoining states’ presidential polls: IL (way down), #3 in IA, haven’t seen a new one in MN, but this can’t be good news for him. Sounds like he peaked a year ago.
Having made Ben Carson their 2nd choice, is a wise move. Smart folks there in Wisconsin.
I live in Wisconsin, have supported Scott. I’m pretty suspicious of him now. I don’t think he’ll be the Republican nominee and now question whether he will ever be reelected in Wisconsin to any office. Nor do I see a path for him to be a part of a future Republican administration. I think he needs to get his head together before he says another word in public. He needs to decide whether he is GOPe or a patriot.
Good advice, but I think he is a finger in the wind politician, not a patriot.
Poll D 48 R42 I 10.
Piss off.
VERY well said. I do defer to my WI Freepers as they know him better than I, but I tell ya, for me he has gone from near the top of the barrel to “anyway we can shove him out of this barrel?”
I didn’t write the article or conduct the poll, but I see you’re still classy. :)
