Ted Cruzs epic battle with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on the Senate floor flowed onto the Fox News set Monday when two influential personalities called out the Texas senator for not going after Donald Trump in the name of party solidarity but being willing to attack one of his own partys leaders.
On Fox News Special Report Monday, commentator Brit Hume accused Cruz of hypocrisy.
He insisted his stance was born of fidelity to the so-called 11th commandment, made famous by Ronald Reagan, thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican, Hume said.
Two days later, Cruz was on the Senate floor calling Republican leader McConnell a liar, Hume said. It may have shown Cruz to be an obvious hypocrite, but for one day, at least, he Trumped Trump, and that means mission accomplished.
Hume was referring to a floor speech Friday when Cruz accused McConnell of misleading him and other Republicans before a vote involving the Export-Import Bank. The public fight continued during a rare session Sunday, when Cruz was criticized though not by name by Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch, the most senior Republican in the body.
Later in the show, conservative columnist and author Charles Krauthammer agreed.
I think Brit Hume was entirely right that it is an act of rather amazing hypocrisy to refuse to attack Trump on the grounds and these are the grounds that Cruz invoked of not wanting to attack another Republican, and then, within a few hours or days, to get on the floor of the Senate and to call your own partys leader a liar, he said.
Both analysts called it it a strategic move by Cruz to court Trump supporters if Trump should leave the race.
Cruz is building a campaign based on standing apart from the Washington Republican establishment. When hes drawing fire from political figures like McConnell and Hatch, and media names like Krauthammer and Hume, hes standing about as far apart from it as he can get.

Attaboys....keep on eating our own!
How bout Sanders and Hill? OMalley? Why arent they being asked about the server and donations and emails and reputation? Sanders statements about women, OM’s minimal record/experience?
No wonder we lose elections that matter
How about these over rated pundits do a story on Mitch lying to the Senate? Did he?
Ted Cruz is the real deal and RINO’s hate that
Trying to compare Cruz’s non-comment about Trump and Cruz’s speech about McConnell’s lie to him, is comparing apples to German tanks. “That dog don’t hunt”.
Yikes. I see what you mean.
Cruz is smart enough to know that Trump is a diversion, probably wholly owned by the Dems, and that he’s got to get on with his own program. I didn’t like Cruz much because i thought he was just A mouth and had no plan, but I think he’s beginning to get it together.
I still like Walker best. And Fiorina is moving up in my mind, but because she’s a white woman, she’ll never be the GOP candidate, no matter how good she may be.
It's what RINOs do.
They hate Cruz and Trump and they like Mitch. So they make a totally inappropriate comparison to defend Mitch and to criticize Trump and Cruz.
They are so transparent.
Krusthumper and Fume are Inside-The-Beltway elitists who do as they are told by Roger Ailes and his globalist masters. They both know that if they were not to attack Cruz per their orders, they would lose their phony-baloney jobs at Faux News in a heartbeat.
Kraut quickly showing his GOPe credentials.
At this rate, the “at some point” Trump stumbles will be about 2020.
It’s actually quite smart, enabling him to continue focusing on his message and letting others dilute their by constantly being stupid enough to engage in a battle of wits and ride their moral high horse.
Take notes folks, of who is truly on the opposing side.
WE'RE THE NEW
Here’s Cruz’s speech they are whining about. Sure, it’s brutal. But he speaks about what was said and what was done.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. There is a reason Senators were granted immunity for speaking in the Senate.
It is to allow for open and free debate. Ted Cruz did exactly that. He is exposing the corruption of the senate and tells them that is not the way to do business.
I have yet to see ANYONE get up either on TV or in the Senate and argue with the FACTS Ted Cruz lays out.
They are thieves that got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
Hume and Krauthammer are just deflecting from the real problem (Corruption in Politics) to attack Cruz as a troublemaker.
Me thinks Charles and Brit like their invitations to the nice cozy evening dinners with all the Political whores.
Bushies
Just can’t wait until Krauthammer and Hume start talking about that tingle they get up their leg over Jeb Bush.
These two snobs are legends in their own minds. They denigrated Sarah Palin in the same snotty way. However, it is more egregious to treat Ted Cruz in such a dismissive way, because he is more intelligent than the two of them combined. They have only succeeded in making themselves look like bigoted jerks.
