The Obama administration is preparing to release Jonathan Pollard, who was convicted in 1987 of spying for Israel, in hopes of alleviating tensions over the Iranian nuclear deal, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
According to US officials cited in the report, some are pushing for Pollards release in a matter of weeks, while others say it could take months. Still other US officials mentioned in the report denied any link between the Iranian nuclear deal and Pollards potential release.
ABC News managing editor tweeted Friday night that US officials had confirmed to ABC that the former Navy analyst was set to be released in November, when he is eligible for parole.
Israeli government officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself activists, and even members of Congress have for decades lobbied successive US administrations for Pollards release.
There have been several reports in US media in recent months alleging that Pollard may be released later this year.
Last week, one of Pollars attorneys, Eliot Lauer, told the Times of Israel that he has received no indication of this.
Last week, one of Pollars attorneys, Eliot Lauer, told the Times of Israel that he has received no indication of this.
We have not received any word, and I would expect that either I or my client would be the ones who would be notified, he said. Lauer is a member of Pollards pro bono legal team, and has represented him for over two decades.
The 61-year-old Pollard is serving a life sentence in a US federal prison for passing classified information to Israel; he was granted citizenship by Israel 20 years ago. The flurry of reports reflect a US government website that lists Pollards release date (under ID number 09185-016) as November 21, 2015

Pollard is penance for selling out Israel.
How much Israeli love has Obama bought with this move?
He spied for Pakistan, too, and he was paid.
One traitor releasing another.
Obama betrayed Israel in 100 ways, now AMERICA has to pay —very creative.
JUST what I’d expect from that vile, mandible-gnashing, dirty insect.
Cap Weinberger said Pollard was directly responsible for the loss of lives of people who were helping the United States in dangerous locations around the world.
You can speculate about what he was talking about.
He was livid when there was earlier talk (during Clinton) about letting Pollard go. He came out of retirement to address the topic.
Craven and cynical icing on the cake for his hideous Iran deal. Reform Jewish women around the country just had a collective orgasm.
Does Israel really want him?
But we really need Israeli spies now, given that we have the mot corrupt, inept, and stupid gubmit in the multiverse. An Israeli janitor has more talent, IQ, and leadership ability than almost all of our low achieving house and senate slime.
Spy, spy, spy, Isreal, and bring them down.
Mossad? We don’t see no Mossad.
Oh, and we will give you Dorkbama to take home and do what you wish with him (or it).
Another argument for the swift and certain application of the death penalty.

“Pollard is penance for selling out Israel.”
That’s a fact.
Yeah, that’s what we should have done! But,,, he’s old and sick, not much of a danger anymore. Let the Israelis pay for his old age health care! I don’t want to! He should have been executed, but we didn’t do that. Dump him off!
While I wouldn’t mind the release of Pollard, I hope that Jewish Americans have not sunk so low as to have their votes bought by the Democrats because of his release.
God knows we have the most anti-Israel, closeted anti-Semitic Marxist government in American history. Makes Jim Baker seem like a Menachem Begin “homeboy”.
If you scratch Fearless Leader Obama you’ll find such Marxist and anti-Israel luminaries as David Axelrod (mentored by a Soviet asset and Communist Party operative); Valerie Jarrett, who spent her time between her CPUSA-affiliated in-laws and watching Vann Jones for years before she picked him as Obie’s environmental czar (He’s a longtime communist revolutionary (STORM organization) so why was Valerie “watching him”, in her own words?; Anita “Mao-Mao” Dunn; Ben Rhoades, a total foreign policy loser; John F*ing Kerry who has a habit of betraying our allies from Vietnam to Nicaragua to Israel and beyond; Susan Rice, who is dumber than our dog’s steamingly hot dump, and longtime betrayer of Israel; Michele Obama who doesn’t even know where Israel is (some of her Chicago buddies such as Rev. Willie Barrows, SCLC and hardcore CPUSA/Cuba supporter, were anti-Israel); the Rev Al Sharpton who trashed NY City Jews; and female commies of Code Pink, their leader renegade Jew Medea Benjamin (not her real name) and their money bagger, Jodie Evans (who was Jewish by injection); Robert Malley, whose father Simon was a Soviet propagandist and founder of an Egyptian Communist Party in 1948; the J Street KAPOS; a few turncoat rabbis, and liberal Jewish writers who think that Benedict Arnold is a great American hero.
If I left out any red, I apologize.
Obama does nothing that doesn’t benefit him politically and only harms America and Israel on the other hand.
Execute him first. No way he should be released until dead and cold.
American Jews voted for Obama. They love him. 70%
Weinberger was an anti-Semite and NEVER provided any evidence to what you say he stated.
The US Govt has refused to provide any such evidence, even in camera, for Pollard’s defense lawyers to review (for his appeals).
Pollard was guilty of spying so I have not problem with him getting a stiff sentence, but Obama has been releasing our enemies by the hundreds (as well as dangerous criminals), after having served only a few years, while keeping Pollard in jail (along with the Bushes and Clinton) for almost 30 years. Even admitted Soviet spy (a-bomb) Morton Sobell got out after 13 or so years of a 30 year sentence.
There is a difference, you should know.
Thanks SeekAndFind.
None, the move is designed to appeal to Democrats in Congress who are undecided how to respond to another Holocaust.
