Tom Tancredo to Donald Trump: Tone it down
Politico ^ | 07/13/2015 | Adam B. Lerner

Tom Tancredo thinks Donald Trump has taken his anti-immigrant rhetoric a bit too far.

The real estate mogul and 2016 presidential hopeful “needs to be a little bit more artful,” Tancredo told the Denver Post. When asked whether he supports Trump’s stance on immigration, though, Tancredo responded, “God, yes.”

.

. “He should take lessons from me on how to talk to the press. For a small fee — no, actually for a very large fee — I will help him out. You’ve got to learn how to talk about it, which takes years of practice, which God knows I’ve had,” said Tancredo.

Tancredo, a Republican from Colorado who served five terms in Congress, is perhaps best remembered for his opposition to illegal immigration and bombastic rhetoric on the subject.

“People who cannot even spell the word vote, or say it in English, put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House. His name is Barack Hussein Obama,” Tancredo once said in a speech at a tea party convention in 2010.

During his unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign Tancredo boycotted a debate at the University of Miami because it was being broadcast in Spanish. He also ran an ad that referred to “vicious central American gangs, now on U.S. soil, pushing drugs, raping kids, destroying lives, thanks to gutless politicians who refuse to defend our borders.”

After losing in the primaries, Tancredo introduced the Jihad Prevention Act in Congress, which required immigrants to pledge that they would not advocate sharia law in the U.S.

Republicans and Democrats alike have criticized Trump for similarly extreme rhetoric on immigration, including a statement in his announcement speech that Mexicans entering the United States illegally are “criminals” and “rapists.”

Trump has refused to apologize for the comments, instead doubling down and appearing publicly with controversial Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a prominent anti-immigration activist.

In a recent speech in Phoenix, Trump said that Mexicans “are taking our jobs. They’re taking our manufacturing jobs. They’re taking our money. They’re killing us.”

Tancredo is just relating his own experience with the media and interest groups when he was the messenger. He found out how vicious they were. Trump has advantages he didn't. However, as I have indicated in a previous post, Trump is just experiencing the beginning of the attacks that will be leveled against him. It is going to get far worse if his candidacy gets real traction. And there will be death threats against him and his family. I hope he has a good security detail.

You don’t have a clue. I have worked with Tom as part of an immigration group and the Tea Party. We need more people like him. He put it all on the line to speak the truth.

In that race people were all chucking their panties on Fred Thompson’s stage.

I personally voted for Duncan hunter who had a real record of border control and much more.

Duncan Hunter was way too liberal for my taste.

We get it. You love Tancredo and he can do no wrong in your eyes. He’s still a backstabbing weasel who sold out to Willard after promising to support Duncan Hunter. Denying or ignoring it and attacking me won’t make it untrue. I was right here when it happened.

It’s not me advising anyone to tone it down. Trump’s efforts to focus attention on the illegals among us is the one thing I like about the guy. Not much else, though.

It’s not directed at you, but at Tancredo. Anyone that tells Trump to tone it down is no friend. Tancredo should shut up.

instead, I suggest a time machine, and Trump will charge Tommy Boy a large fee to teach him how to conduct his campaign, which was a miserable failure.

Tom Tancredo is right.

He is intelligent enough to endorse Ted Cruz.

Tom Tancredo was fighting against illegal immigration in Congress at a time when Trump said he wanted pathway to citizenship for 30 million.

Only a sociopath/psychopath would refuse to acknowledge the difference between legal immigration/immigrants and illegal immigration/immigrants.

I am looking at you, Tommy Boy.

Tommy could have been an understudy for the character "Harry Ellis" in the first Die Hard movie, smooth talking to Hans Gruber.

Legality is nice. Source culture is more important.

I would take a million completely illegal Irish immigrants over a million legal, green-card holding Mexicans any day.

Also, Muslim immigrants to the USA mostly arrive via legal visa or refugee channels. Does that make their growing presence in our homeland a good thing? Of course it doesn't. Islam is poison with or without papers.,

The two most important things about immigrants are where they come from, and in what number. Followed by individual qualifications (Up to a point: I would take a Polish laborer any day over a Pakistani engineer). Legality isn't in my top three.

In the past I have said publicly that Trump should modify his public statements to be more coherent as to repetitious references. I have been criticized for such an attitude. I can understand the fervent spirit for Trump and can live with/accept such as being heartfelt support. At this point I believe that Trump believes/knows there are diverse persons in the political mix and he wants/needs to connect with all on the same ‘political train’ at the same time. He is a clever man who many others will find difficult to deal with, Republicans as well as others. I would hope that Cruz’s legal expertise would enter into Trump’s societal expertise.

It is not anti immigrant rhetoric. It is anti illegal immigrant rhetoric. Big difference. Distinction blurred for propaganda effect; no honest debate from Tomcredo.

Trump and Cruz would make a great team—I can see them working together to smite Bush III and Rubio. Trump—the emotional bombastic approach—Cruz the brains of a debater. Both love America and together they would be unbeatable.
