Tom Tancredo thinks Donald Trump has taken his anti-immigrant rhetoric a bit too far.
The real estate mogul and 2016 presidential hopeful “needs to be a little bit more artful,” Tancredo told the Denver Post. When asked whether he supports Trump’s stance on immigration, though, Tancredo responded, “God, yes.”

. “He should take lessons from me on how to talk to the press. For a small fee — no, actually for a very large fee — I will help him out. You’ve got to learn how to talk about it, which takes years of practice, which God knows I’ve had,” said Tancredo.
Tancredo, a Republican from Colorado who served five terms in Congress, is perhaps best remembered for his opposition to illegal immigration and bombastic rhetoric on the subject.
“People who cannot even spell the word vote, or say it in English, put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House. His name is Barack Hussein Obama,” Tancredo once said in a speech at a tea party convention in 2010.
During his unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign Tancredo boycotted a debate at the University of Miami because it was being broadcast in Spanish. He also ran an ad that referred to “vicious central American gangs, now on U.S. soil, pushing drugs, raping kids, destroying lives, thanks to gutless politicians who refuse to defend our borders.”
After losing in the primaries, Tancredo introduced the Jihad Prevention Act in Congress, which required immigrants to pledge that they would not advocate sharia law in the U.S.
Republicans and Democrats alike have criticized Trump for similarly extreme rhetoric on immigration, including a statement in his announcement speech that Mexicans entering the United States illegally are “criminals” and “rapists.”
Trump has refused to apologize for the comments, instead doubling down and appearing publicly with controversial Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a prominent anti-immigration activist.
In a recent speech in Phoenix, Trump said that Mexicans “are taking our jobs. They’re taking our manufacturing jobs. They’re taking our money. They’re killing us.”
How can anyone argue with the person who got all those votes in 2008, and all that respect from the media.

BTW I understand Tancredo is on the right side of the issue, but this is not the time to “tone it down.” The enemy (donk’s and GOPe) are squealing like stuck pigs. That means it is time to tone it UP.
I can’t think of any examples where toning it down has ever worked to one’s intended benefit. I can think of many examples where ramping it up has worked effectively.
Donald Trump doesn’t listen to ANYONE. He says whatever he thinks. And if he’s criticized, he says it again, usually in more powerful and interesting terms.
Anyone who attempts to give advise to Donald Trump on toning it down, or on virtually anything for that matter, just doesn’t get it.

Tancredo announced on July 26, 2010 that he planned to change parties and run for Governor of Colorado on the American Constitution Party ticket. He received 617,030 votes (36.7%), coming in second place, well ahead of the Republican Party nominee, who got about 11% of the vote.
Tancredo ran for governor in 2014, this time as a Republican, because of his opposition to current Colorado governor John Hickenlooper's refusal to execute convicted murderer Nathan Dunlap, as well as Hickenlooper's attempts to pass gun control legislation. Tancredo competed for the Republican Party's nomination with Bob Beauprez, Steve House, Greg Brophy, Mike Kopp, and Scott Gessler. Tancredo lost the primary to Beauprez.
Tancredo introduced the Mass Immigration Reduction Act. The act would have imposed an indefinite moratorium on immigration to the United States. Under the act, only spouses and children of American citizens would be allowed to immigrate, which Tancredo estimated would amount to 300,000 immigrants annually. The moratorium would last for at least the first five years of the act and, after that, until such time as there were fewer than 10,000 illegal immigrants entering per year. When those conditions were met, immigration would only have been allowed at whatever level the president and both houses of Congress agreed would have no adverse impact on wages, housing, the environment, or schools.
When last introduced in 2003, the bill had 11 cosponsors. Organizations that have endorsed Tancredo's bill include: NumbersUSA, Population-Environment Balance, Carrying Capacity Network, Federation for American Immigration Reform, Negative Population Growth, and the American Patrol. Tancredo introduced the bill in 2001 (H. R. 2712) and 2003 (H. R. 946). Tancredo did not re-introduce the bill in 2005. In 2007, he proposed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to "establish English as the official language of the United States," (H.R. 19).

Well I love Tom Tancredo but I think Trump is a big boy and can handle his own rhetoric.
I guess Tancredo may be a tad jealous Trump is actually getting results and a discussion going.

Trump is a billionaire with far greater name recognition. He can do things that Tom can't. I understand Tom's reservations since he was called a bigot and a racist. He was targeted by Hispanic groups whenever he gave a speech. They physically accosted him.
Trump is just beginning to find out the price he will have to pay. And the price will go up the more successful he is. It will get very nasty. I have experienced it firsthand as well. Even El Chapo has warned him to shut up. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that Trump is receiving death threats. The Dem rent a mob will target Trump every chance they get. I hope he has the courage to continue speaking the truth. The GOPe and the Dems want to silence him. He is a threat to the Uniparty.
I am not defending Trump. I am just questioning Tom Tancredo telling anyone else to “tone it down”. Perhaps he has never gotten anywhere on his quest to end illegal immigration becaause he chose to tone it down to the point that nobody pays any attention to him.
We are losing this war with the left. They tone it up, we tone it down.
And Trump was telling the GOP to tone it down or they would lose the 2012 election.
The emphasis should be on “was.” He ceased to be around late 2007 when he sold out cheap to Willard.

He just got fed up and left Congress because he was among a very few who wanted to fight on the issue of immigration, legal and illegal. I have the greatest respect for him and the assistance he provided our grassroots immigration organization.
