An Arkansas woman who went to pick up the class ring she ordered from Walmart left disappointed, after store officials told her the retailer's new policy barred them from turning the item over -- because it bore an image of the Confederate flag.
Elaine Glidewell told KFSM someone from the store in Fort Smith called her to pick up the ring she'd ordered for her nephew, but when she arrived on Tuesday, a clerk told her she couldnt have it. The ring had been ordered before Walmart stopped selling items bearing images of the flag, in the wake of controversy that stemmed from a racially-charged shooting in South Carolina.
I wanted to cry, Glidewell told KFSM, adding that the store clerk said the ring would be "melted."

One could Google or Bing for custom flags. If one had a sufficiently hi-res image or vector graphics.
I tend to the theologically acerbic side about Ten Commandments rah-rah. That’s like framing and hanging the school test that you got an F on and could not pass for your entire life. I’d rather honor the Tutor who promised that once I actually get out of here, I’ll be passing any such test with flying colors.
But I understand it as cultural icon.
There’s places that sell Dixie flag motif Redneck belts and belt buckles too...
I never had a position on the flag one way or the other. I was born and raised in the south, but on my Mom’s side of the family my ancestors fought on the Union side, and on my Dad’s side, they were all too poor back then to have much say in the matter one way or the other.
But this crap is pissing me off. Style over substance, cultural-cleansing, “narrative is more important than the facts” BS.
:P
Good idea.
I avoid wally world as much as possible though.
The one thing I wished, that didn’t happen, when the GOP voted to remove that Democrat-hung banner over the SC capitol, would be that they had pointed out WHY. Haley hinted about it, which is better than nothing, but the circumstances of its decades old placement there was really a misuse of the icon. If the state wants to vote it back for contemporary reasons, explicitly giving the flag a different meaning, that would be a different story.
And, none of this excuses the hysteria that took it out of Wal-Mart. It’s almost as if they were TRYING to make it countercultural.
I’ve offended some rednecks with my transcendent concept of redneck (rednecks come in many colors).
It was funny to have encountered one that was a Facebook friend for all of 15 minutes till he learned that no, I did not blame the Bilderbergers for all America’s evils and that some of the best people I have met were foreigners.
And (sound of raspberry) he was gawn....
You see, I honor what God has done through rednecks... and not what rednecks make of themselves as idols. In the sense I mean, Jesus came as a redneck.
LOL! Perfect!
maybe someone can make it as a flag, sell it and make some $. boy the liberals in my neighborhood would crap bricks. i have the confederate flag out now and they are screaming away. So some guy decided to put his leaky boat out for sale, the boat is gone now because someone threw a lit cigarette into it and it went up in flames.
“I would sue to the hilt. Ordering a custom ring is basically a contract.”
Im not so sure she has a case. According to the article, they refunded her money back to her. She should have stood her ground by refusing to accept the refund and demanded the ring. And if they still refused to hand over the ring, then she would have a case. By taking the money back, this can be seen as a mutual agreement to termination of the contract.
To me, rednecks are the backbone of our country. Some day, hubby and I want to live off-the-grid somewhere in backwoods Tennessee. (instead of the People’s Republik of Maryland)
Bakers can be made to bake cakes for gay weddings, but wal mart cant be made to sell confederate flag decorated items to anyone?
Right. I wouldn’t take the money back. I would sue for breach of contract, emotional suffering, etc. I would really like to see the fine print which would justify anything like what they have done. One thing to refuse to accept to make the design (which they apparently did); another to MAKE it, tell the customer it is ready, then blindside them with the news that they can’t have it and it is going to be melted. (Man...this pisses me off! Mostly because things got SO stupid SO quickly! Someone has to take a stand...this might be the perfect opportunity)
Not even a face saving “Send it back to manufacturer who will then sell it directly to customer.”
Good point!...send it back to the manufacturer to sell to customer. (Like China cares about/knows about the Confederate flag, anyway? :) ) WalMart can take their phony “stand”, but customer still gets their ring.
When JC Penney went sodomite on us I found some elsewhere’s to patronize. I’m sure I can for Wally World, too.
Not because I care that much about that particular flag. But because of the stupidity involved. The flag is an inanimate object, just like a gun. Neither one can MAKE anyone DO anything.
People DO things like the spoiled little twerp in SC did because their hearts are evil. You can count on the devious, wicked, loony left to use some false alibi, such as the flag, to deflect our attention from the REAL causes.
This insanity is really starting to remind me of Mao’s cultural revolution of the 60s.
I think you’ve pretty well covered it. Good job.
Maybe Penney was just a little too ahead of its time, pulled itself off balance. Now we have an officially Gay America.
