Ted Cruz continued his verbal assault on last weeks historic Supreme Court decisions on Monday, saying the justices who ruled in favor of Obamacare and gay marriage rewrote the Constitution. They joined a team, they put on bright-blue Obama jerseys and they rewrote the law, the U.S. senator from Texas told Yahoo News Katie Couric during a live sit-down interview from Yahoos New York City studios. Those decisions are a threat to our democracy.
Cruz slammed Chief Justice John Roberts, who wrote the majority opinion in the Obamacare case on behalf of what the 2016 Republican presidential hopeful called five unelected lawyers.
I think the chief justice believes somehow that by rewriting Obamacare hes keeping the Supreme Court out of politics, Cruz said. But sadly these will go down in his legacy as the most political decisions he has ever made. And theyre violating his oath of office.
The Courts decision to effectively legalize same-sex marriage in every state, Cruz said, is a profound threat to the religious liberty to millions of men and women, regardless of their faith.
The Supreme Court ruling extends to gay couples the ability to apply for and be granted state-issued marriage licenses, but some conservative religious leaders worry about being petitioned directly to take part in services or otherwise recognize marriages their faiths continue to oppose.
Society has no right to force a Jewish rabbi to perform a Christian wedding ceremony, he said. Society has no right to force a Muslim Imam to perform a Jewish wedding ceremony. Theres nothing in the Constitution that demands we tear down the marriage laws in every state, Cruz, a conservative Christian, continued. I am eager to fight for religious liberty.
Couric asked Cruz if hes out of step with public opinion on gay marriage since 60 percent of Americans believe same-sex marriages should be recognized as legal.
Im not at all, Cruz said, blaming liberals and Hollywood for pushing the gay-marriage agenda.
The 44-year-old first-term senator vowed to expose what he called the Washington cartel in his run for the White House.
I think its wrong when our elected leaders are lying to the American people and treating us like were stupid, the first-term senator said. People are fed up with people who say one thing and do another.
That includes the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court represents the elites in New York and Washington, D.C., Cruz said.
On the issue of the environment, Cruz dismissed climate change as a pseudoscientific theory.
Satellite data shows there has been no significant recorded warming. None, Cruz said. When the satellites are measuring the temperature its not happening.
Climate change, he said, is being driven by politicians who want more control over our lives.
On the subject of terrorism, Cruz criticized President Barack Obama for not correctly defining the threat.
We cannot defeat radical Islamic terrorism with a president who is unwilling to utter the words radical Islamic terrorism, Cruz said. It matters.
The Obama administration, Cruz said, is engaging in what he calls photo-op foreign policy drop a bomb here, a bomb there.
We should be funding the Kurds and using them as boots on the ground, he said.
On immigration, the Canadian-born Texan and son of a Cuban immigrant said America needs to get serious in securing the borders.
There is no stronger champion of legal immigration than I am in the Senate, Cruz said.
But the Texas senator declined to answer the question of what to do with the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States.
With respect to the people who are here illegally now, I dont think we have to solve everything at once, he said.
On his chances to win the Republican nomination, Cruz dismissed polls that show him trailing his GOP rivals despite being the first to launch a campaign.
I think national polls are almost entirely irrelevant, Cruz said. I think the energy and enthusiasm we are seeing [on the campaign trail] is incredible.
I hope he handled her better than Sarah Palin did.
He did well with Savannah Guthrie on NBC this morning.
“Conservatives” that did not tell the media what Ted just did, weren’t afraid to tell them the same, the ugly truth is, they don’t really believe those things themselves, they merely mouth them to you and other conservative voters to get your money and your votes!
Excellent! Although Ted Cruz going up against Kouric and Guthrie is like pitting the 1956 NY Yankees (Mantle, Berra, Ford etc.) against a Class D minor league team.
It’s just not a fair fight.
Ted is doing the right thing, sitting comfortably in enemy territory. We have to open up and be prepared for the Liberal ‘Gotcha’ questions they can’t wait to ask you.
He did well with Savannah Guthrie on NBC this morning.
Here’s the link to that interview (Guthrie/Cruz)...and, Ted DID do a GREAT job swatting away Guthrie’s attempt at throwing gotchas....
Couric is with Yahoo, where nobody goes for news.
Anyone who trusts Couric to act like anything but a flaming liberal tool is naïve. Palin counted on intelligence & journalistic fairness & got knifed in the back. “Snuffy” Couric is a joke; a rather old one.
” We should be funding the Kurds and using them as boots on the ground, he said.”
NO! NO! NO!
Pull us completely out of the Near East. The Kurds are Muslims, and are no more to be trusted than the Saudi Arabians. I predict that the Iranians will destroy the Saudi Arabians with nukes.
I understand the tapes of that interview which Couric did with Sarah Palin had 18 different applications. This to use a manipulation of the interview and make Sarah Palin look bad.
Once described as the "perky one," Couric's methods tell us more about her, never mind about Sarah Palin. She is a spiteful person. Can one imagine what bile drives her each morning as she gets up and preens herself in the mirror?.
bfl
He must be referring to their new emblem: the "lying RINOlilly." Red on the outside; blue on the inside. Used to be restricted to coastal areas in America's northeast and far west, but recently has spread inland to America's mid-west. There have been some sightings in the south.
The lying RINOlilly emerges from the earth every two years--around labor day. Blooms bright red until the first Wednesday in November, when it changes color over-night to bright blue.
This horrible weed will spread country-wide unless pulled up by its roots and destroyed before Labor Day.
Sounds like a good Paulie. Do you think that if we do nothing, they will leave us alone?
[[On the issue of the environment, Cruz dismissed climate change as a pseudoscientific theory.]]
Would someone with a direct line to Ted please inform Him climate change is real- but what it is NOT is man caused- and please inform him the reason it can’t possibly be caused by man is because only 0.00137% of our atmosphere is made up of CO2 produced by man, and there is NO WAY 0.00137% of our atmosphere can possibly be trapping enough heat, and then back radiated a FRACTION of that heat back to earth to move the thermometer one iota in any direction!
Contrast that with Palin’s folksy stumbling with Katie. I love this guy. He isn’t afraid.
[[preens herself in the mirror?. ]]
If she’d only remove her liberal rose colored glasses she would see the horror that stares back at her-
WOW! A brain helps! Did Katy get in a word edgewise? Nice serve, Mr. Cruz.
McCain was/is a dope and unfortunately Sarah was a dupe. McCain was experienced, but unserious. Sarah was serious but critically unexperienced. Neither had the chops for political warfare.
Cruz is a rock, and solid smart. I am delighted for Katy to get her come-upance, after seeing her with such aplomb, rear end Sarah for the knock out.
We never saw the uncut tapes of Palin’s interview, and Palin was in the horrible position of instantly having to filter her own politics and positions to fit John McCain as the top of the ticket, a man that she did not know, and was very different from.
