Doug Band's exit...marks the end of a complicated relationship w/ Band’s controversial company, Teneo. The Clinton Foundation is under fire for pocketing $$millions in donations for access, but Teneo’s role is less well-known.....described as a vast money-making machine. “...not just emblematic of how "Clinton Inc." works, it's the political and financial mess that's been created,” author Halper said.

The New Republic noted the suspicious nature of Band’s work in 2013. “...an undertow of transactionalism in the glittering annual dinners, the fixation on celebrity and a contingent of donors whose charitable contributions and business interests occupy an uncomfortable proximity. Even more than [Bill] Clinton, Band is responsible for creating this culture....and has thrived in it.”

Headquartered at Citigroup Center, Manhattan, with global office, Teneo — Latin for “to guide” — started modestly in 2009. Band and Declan Kelly, US economic envoy to Northern Ireland in Hillary’s State Dept, joined in 2011, turning it into a global powerhouse.

Band's idea for the Clinton Global Initiative came in 2005.....paid $110,000 by Clinton....Band was also paid an undisclosed amount by Clinton donor Ron Burkle, who sent checks to SGRD, Band’s Florida-based LLC, the WSJ reported. Band's Teneo bio touts being “part of the negotiation team that handled all aspects of Hillary’s becoming secretary of state.”

Band recruited Bill Clinton for Teneo's advisory board. Teneo clients paid staggering monthly retainers — up to $250,000....expected to donate to the Clinton Foundation...in turn, foundation donors were encouraged to retain Teneo. “The idea was to have Fortune 400 companies pay large monthly stipends in exchange for access to the massive Band/Clinton international network. Teneo would ‘consult’, offer strategic advice and help overcome issues in various countries,” Halper wrote in “Clinton Inc.” But an ex-Teneo employee said clients got nothing more than an “implicit promise of access to Clinton.”

Abedin Didn’t Disclose Consulting Work She Did While Serving in Hillary’s State Dept.

The State Department, under Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, created an arrangement for her longtime aide and confidante Huma Abedin to work for private clients as a consultant while serving as a top adviser in the department. Ms. Abedin did not disclose the arrangement — or how much income she earned — on her financial report. It requires officials to make public any significant sources of income. The disclosure of the agreement that Ms. Abedin made with the State Department comes as her husband, former Representative Anthony D. Weiner, a Democrat, prepares for a mayoral run in New York City. Politico reported the arrangement on Thursday afternoon.

Ms. Abedin declined a request for an interview, but the picture that emerges from interviews and records suggests a situation where the lines were blurred between Ms. Abedin’s work in the high echelons of one of the government’s most sensitive executive departments and her role as a Clinton family insider. While continuing her work at the State Department, in the latter half of 2012, she also worked for Teneo, a strategic consulting firm, which was founded by Doug Band, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton. Teneo has advised corporate clients like Coca-Cola and MF Global, the collapsed brokerage firm run by Jon S. Corzine, a former governor of New Jersey.

Band married investment banker Lily Rafii in 2007 in a Paris chateau.

Teneo Holdings seems dependent upon a few key personnel with unusually light professional credentials whose primary competitive advantage appears to be a privileged relationship with an ex-president's charity.

Successful investment firms such as BC Partners tend to concentrate upon a limited number of portfolio investments, favoring well-established platforms they believe they can strengthen.

In one news report.....the Clintons defend their foundation’s work by saying that its focus has always been on "charity." “We and our supporters care only about impact, not ideology,” Bill Clinton said in his written statement. “We are an entirely non-political foundation.”
