Nine graffiti artists who spray painted creations across the world-renowned 5Pointz building filed a lawsuit Friday in Brooklyn federal court, seeking unspecified damages from the owner who whitewashed away their artwork.

The aerosol artists say they are owed substantial cash damages because Wolkoff painted over their al fresco works.

The iconic buildings had more than 350 works of visual art on the walls inside and out when Wolkoff destroyed them, the lawsuit said.
The colorful, eye-catching creations were torn down for good last summer.

Property rights should not apply in this case ... cause the mean old evil developer intentionally ruined these colorful, eye-catching creations!
I am amazed that even the sleaziest of federal court judges would permit such a lawsuit. America is in worse trouble than I imagined.
The owner of the building agould always have the last say as long as it complies with local ordinances and isn’t a public nuisance that can’t be avoided.
Criminals...suing the property owner...whose property rights they violated...this is satire, right? RIGHT?!?!
Just tell us which work was yours so we can know which particular act of vandalism we can arrest you for.
Owner should countersue for the cost of removing the paint.
I’d say, “now I’ve heard everything” but I know I haven’t.
What happened to the good old days of shooting someone for dissin yo tag?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen graffiti / artwork that screams “no admittance white man; mugging imminent” in my life...
Well of course they are entitled, they identified as if the building were their own.
Okay, where did they find a lawyer this stupid?.............................NYC, never mind....................
While I whole-heartedly agree that the owner of building has the right to do with its exterior as he sees fit, some of the grafitti is well done. Some very talented artists in the grafitti world.
I kept thinking this must be satire but it’s actually true? This country has gone insane.
They’re not artists, they’re vandals and it should be legal to shoot them on sight.
L
From a legal standpoint, that’s irrelevant.
In saner times, I would say that this lawsuit would be laughed out of court...but now...?
“Criminals...suing the property owner...whose property rights they violated...this is satire, right? RIGHT?!?!”
Actually, if one takes the time to read the article, the property owner gave his permission to allow ‘artists’ to do their thing.
Should sue right back for destruction of property or vandalizing; either way.
Exterior paint is never permanent. Take some pics and move on.
How, exactly, were they criminals?
