Arrests in Baltimore plummet, and residents are fearful
The Baltimore Sun ^ | June 13, 2015 | Doug Donovan and Colin Campbell

Baltimore police arrested fewer people in May than in any month for at least three years, despite a surge in homicides and shootings across the city — triggering safety concerns among residents..

Several neighborhoods saw declines of more than 90 percent from April to May, while arrests in the West Baltimore area where Freddie Gray was arrested dropped by more than half during the same period, according to a Baltimore Sun analysis of police data. Citywide, arrests declined 43 percent from April to May.

"I've noticed fewer police," said Steve Dixon, program director for the Penn North Recovery Center in West Baltimore. "We're having robberies at the playground in broad daylight. All these murders and shootings, we're having them in broad daylight."

The dramatic citywide decline — which has sparked a debate about police pulling back on enforcement efforts — came in the aftermath of the death of Gray. Six officers have been charged in the death of the 25-year-old, who suffered spinal injuries while in police custody and died a week after his April 12 arrest.

City leaders and police union officials have provided explanations for the slowdown....

“Federal Hill” is a great example of an upscale, progressive, millennial habitat. I would bet that 80% of that area voted lib. Just wait until they see what this does to their home values.

Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts said last week that they have “endured a lot of trauma.” He added that officers have “an ethical responsibility to this city, to the babies, to the kids, to the mothers, to the weak ones that are out there, to protect this city as a whole and keep their job going in that direction.”

I wonder if Police Commissioner Batts has strapped on his gun belt, jumped in a patrol car and headed out to the streets, leading his officers from the front or if he just sits in his office and makes statements like these.

Same Mayor, same States Attorney; the policing can drop further yet. For businesses that complain about property crime, like broken windows, the next stage is to just ask them to come in and fill out paperwork. For violent crime and drug dealing, drive by an hour later and see nothing. Baltimore can become Detroit.

To a common sense person this may be “the chickens have come home to roost”. But to our democrat friends, they have created numerous opportunities here.

Such as more federal control over the city. More examples of gun violence they can use to trim back the 2nd Amendment.

The joy and glee possibilities for the dems here is really endless. Who knows, Baltimore may just devolve into total anarchy where they get to have martial law. It may just spread to other democrat run hell holes which they could use to justify suspending the Constitution.

And meanwhile, back at the ranch, the RINO’s keep kissing dem butt.

I think you don’t understand what is involved. The Baltimore debacle is not a situation to be capitalized by the Feds

The Baltimore City is a stew of competing black cultures all of which would resent and resist federal encroachment. If the Feds intervene, the local corrupt black pols would quickly undermine and sink the Fed effort. The feds are simply not welcome to swim in the black Baltimore city sewage.

“Should Maryland spring all of Baltimore’s violent black offenders from prison so that they can return home and become upstanding citizens too?”

Well prison is no different than slavery, according to a black judge in Philadelphia that REFUSES to send black felons to jail.

So yes - cut them loose too. Then Baltimore will get a COMPLETE TASTE of total liberation from the pigs (as they see them).

Black Lives Matter ,,, especially in the criminal element ,, so B-more cops are preserving the legacy of these thug criminals for future black legacies . Black mayor , black city council , black police commissioner , black atty. general ,,, what more could you ask for if you’re a gang banger thug in B-more. Who do the black citizens in B-more have to blame for all this ,,,, themselves . They will continue to endorse the same lame politicians and policies over and over and that my dear friends is sheer insanity or better known a political anarchy . Now live with it and stop complaining !!!

Why not just declare a 48 hour cease fire and evacuate all the non-thug refugees. Maybe settle them somewhere safer, like the Gaza Strip.

IIRC Baltimore got at least $100 million from the feds to deal with urban decay. One thing I believe I also read was there was little evidence the money was actually used for urban renewal...the money went somewhere and to someone. Just like the Chicago corrupt deal that should have dogged the president when he was running...well, a number of them, to the hundreds of millions that went to Solyndra...follow the corrupt money.
