Nothing wrong with hiring ex-felons as cops. What could possibly go wrong?

Hiring more non-white officers is difficult because so many would-be recruits have criminal records, the New York police commissioner, Bill Bratton, has said.
“We have a significant population gap among African American males because so many of them have spent time in jail and, as such, we can’t hire them,” Bratton said in an interview with the Guardian.
Police departments, responding to widespread protests against several high-profile police killings of black men, are boosting efforts to recruit more non-white officers. But budget restrictions, strained relations between police and minority communities and, according to Bratton, a history of indiscriminate policing tactics that disproportionately target black and Latino men complicate the department’s goal of racial parity.
Bratton blamed the “unfortunate consequences” of an explosion in “stop, question and frisk” incidents that caught many young men of color in the net by resulting in them being given a summons for a minor misdemeanor. As a result, Bratton said, the “population pool [of eligible non-white officers] is much smaller than it might ordinarily have been”(continued)

The obvious answer is to dumb down their standards (for blacks anyway) and allow felons to join the NYPD.
Then they can understand both sides of the criminal justice system...
It is not because they spent time in jail, it is because they can’t read well enough to pass a simple test!
Yep. After he tackled that little gal down he would have whispered in her ear: “Settle down ‘lil Tiger girl, Big Daddy is here! Be cool now, and then me and you we all be like solid later!”.....
So the issue isn't that they were breaking the law, only that they got caught. With high standards like that, what could possibly go wrong?

Lots can pass a test, and lots don't have criminal records.
But Affirmative Action ensures that those ones will get hired by Corporate America, anxious to meet diversity goals, at a salary that exceeds what the police force will pay.
That should do it for Bratton. That’s equivalent to then Havard president and Fed chairman candidate Larry Summers saying that women being under-represented in the sciences was due to natural differences from men.
Well how long till he gets the boot and shown the door?
