Patient With Extreme Form of TB Sent to NIH

A female patient with an extremely hard-to-treat form of tuberculosis is being treated at the National Institutes of Health outside Washington D.C., and federal and state officials are now tracking down hundreds of people who may have been in contact with her.

The woman traveled to at least three states before she sought treatment from a U.S. doctor. While TB is not easily caught by casual contact, extensively drug resistant (XDR) TB is so dangerous that health officials will have to make a concerted effort to warn anyone who may be at risk.

It’s not Africa or Southeast Asia, for a change.

Why don’t we have her go be Mark Zuckerberg’s secretary?

Like in a REALLY confined airspace.

That’d be nice.

When the diseases once again become too strong for any sort of medication, it’s back to the Dark Ages and we’re all completely scr*wed.

She was seeking help only from foreign doctors? A lot of American doctors are ‘going Galt’ due to Obamacare?
Hey, ‘TB Indira’—thanks for the gift!

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I was diagnosed with TB over 40 years ago. They locked me in the TB ward at Milwaukee General. Finally after almost a year, they dug into my lungs and found out it was atypical, non contagious, and I’d probably gotten it gardening. I had split up a huge Lilly patch in my yard. They’re tubers. In that year of isolation, with real TB patients, I lost everything I owned. Took meds for a year and a half. Had an exray last week, and you can’t even find any scars. They shoulda put the aids patients in locked wards.

An NBC news report said that although TB doesn’t transmit well, because this is a highly resistant strain, they’re trying to find everyone she had contact with, starting with the plane to O’Hare, and then to everyone who met her in Missouri and Tennessee.

Good luck with that.

OK...wouldn’t this have been found if we checked people at the border as we did in the 1800s? I am ready for a return to that time
