It will probably take me two weekends to do them justice in addition to the Beethoven project.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis allegro in 3/4 is nicknamed the Horse etude. Its all about tricky fingering simultaneously in both hands. The Whoa! effect at the end is hilarious.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis agitato in 4/4 is about exercising the 5th finger of the left hand while keeping the main action in both hands on the half-beats.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis vivace in 3/4 is about passing the second figure to the thumb three times in each bar in a dissonant arrangement. The pretty middle section in E Major is about reversing that maneuver.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis allegro in 4/4 is nicknamed the Bee etude. Its an exercise for the right hand in both adjacent and chromatic fingering.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis lento in 3/4 is a cry from the heart. The right hand handles the theme, but the left hand is required to perform gymnastics over the lament.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis vivace legato in 4/4 features two technical problems. The right hand plays major sixths with thumb and second finger alternating on the bottom note, and the third, fourth and fifth fingers in different patterns on the top note. The left hand plays a trickier pattern over a wider span.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis allegro vivace in 2/4 is nicknamed the Butterfly etude. Its about a lightning-fast placement of thumb and fifth finger on adjacent chords.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis allegro con fuoco in 2/2 is nicknamed the Octaves etude. It involves alternating the fourth and fifth fingers on the top note of the right hand octaves and iron control of the left hand octaves. The middle section in B Major and 3/4 is a welcome relief before the rampaging octaves return.
