Iraq Asks for Immediate Military Support from US to Save Anbar

The Iraqi government and army officials have sent a plea to United States officials in Baghdad, asking for military support as soon as possible to prevent Ramadi, the largest city in Anbar Province, from falling to Islamic State (IS).

At a meeting held in Baghdad on Sunday to discuss the latest advances of IS in Anbar, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi warned that the jihadists may take the western Iraqi province.

The meeting was attended by Iraqi army commanders, the Parliament Speaker, US Ambassador Stuart Jones and a number of Iraqi political leaders. They discussed a plan to repel the IS Anbar offensive.

The Iraqi government is to send extra military support to the army frontlines and Shi’ite militias in the areas.

Iraqi parliament speaker Salim al-Jabouri held a meeting with the US ambassador attended by Anbar City Council members.

A statement published by al-Jabouri’s office after the meeting revealed, “Immediate extra military support will be sent to the Anbar frontlines to prevent further IS advances in the province.”

The statement also called for urgent international support to save Anbar residents.

Things happening fast in Anbar now. Iraqi Premier went on TV a few hours ago, ordering troops not to give up their positions in Anbar. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/a98067331bb14fcbb3808d593de88662/suicide-car-bombs-kill-10-iraqi-troops-besieged-ramadi

Last year, we were CYBERSCREAMING for civilized countries to disintegrate ISIS while they were still marching in a column across the desert. We were wondering how outrageous it could get, putting the lust to oust Assad, who defended Christians above stopping this evil. We're STILL training, arming, and financing "friendly rebels" who turn against us.

It's not if, but when, it all gets out of control....in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the US. And still, the players are manipulating things for their own agenda.

beyond disgusted

""As your commander in chief, I will not commit you and the rest of our armed forces to fighting another ground war in Iraq," Obama told troops at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Rather, the U.S. forces will support Iraqi forces on the ground as the Iraqis fight ISIS, he said.

The dirtbag pissed away immeasurable sacrifices only to facilitate the evil reincarnate, ISIS.

Iraq may need to look elsewhere for assistance unfortunately.

I’d support going back in only if Paul Bremmer and Nouri Al Maliki are at the tip of the spear - these two are more responsible than anyone for creating ISIS.

Sounds good but we also have to be willing and able to squash them without remorse or worry about "collateral damages" when they make the slightest move on us - can't see that happening unless the current admin sees an opening for imposing even harsher squashing of American Citizens.

Right or wrong as history unfolds, Bush had the right idea about fighting them on their turf instead of ours. Now, nobody wants to fight them anywhere.

Every tribal jerk in Anbar who sat in a cafe drinking mint tea and grousing about American occupiers as the neighborhood watch went around setting up ieds to kill our men - can fight for their own lives or rot in Isis hell

"It's a quagmire if you go that far and try to take over Iraq." -- Dick Cheney, U.S. Secretary of Defense, April 15, 1994

I think the U.S. should airlift every living person within seven branches of this @sshole on his family tree over there.

I thought Barky had sub contracted this job to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Or are the mullahs turned off by facing people crazier than themselves.

There were stories from a couple of months ago that the Iranian troops got blooded pretty badly in the last offensive against ISIS, along with a bunch of Iraqi troops.

I think my son and my cousin would bust you in the nose for your asinine comment. My son fought in both Ramadi and the second battle of Fallujah. He stood guard over Iraqis the day the day they voted in national elections for the first time.

My Cousin was badly wounded in Fallujah. A Navy corpsman performed open chest surgery on him in fire fight conditions and saved his life. My cousin lost his career in Fallujah fighting for the people of An-Anbar.

Both of them saw good life-loving American U.S. Marines die for the people of An-Anbar Province. You should pray they never find out who you are, or I think you come away from a meeting with either or both of them bloodied and in pain.

This will sure be fun when Iran has nukes.

Obama is just running out the clock so he will avoid the inevitable massive war on the horizon.
