(Reuters) - Britain's Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have named their newborn daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, a choice that honors the baby's late grandmother Princess Diana and her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth.

I read Charlotte was number one in betting. Don't know why, yet, unless she's named after her granddad.

Charlotte is the “feminine” form of Charles the babies grandpa. Also the wife of King George the Third was . Elizabeth is great gramma aka -the Queen. And Diana was her dads mothers name. So its a name full of tradition which is something England is big on.

The only daughter of George the IV was Charlotte. She was much loved and died in childbirth.
Doubt they are naming the baby after her. Just an interesting historical tidbit.
