The parent company of Assurant Health said Tuesday that it will sell or shut down the Milwaukee health insurer which employs 1,200 people in the area by the end of next year.
Assurant Health has struggled to adjust to changes in the health insurance market imposed by the Affordable Care Act and is expected to report an operating loss of $80 million to $90 million in its first quarter. That comes after it lost $64 million last year.
The company, whose headquarters is in downtown Milwaukee, specializes in health insurance for small employers and individuals, the two market segments that have faced the most changes from the Affordable Care Act.

PING!!!
Sounds like everything is going according to plan, Nancy Pelosi’s plan. Single payer, here we come.
[spit]
Well, we did have to pass the bill to find out what was in it, eh?
This is a blow to me, personally, as this company has provided affordable health insurance policies to the employees of our small company for the last 5 years, or so. These were policies for the (otherwise) uninsurable.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Thank you so much for posting this. That eeeeee-ville Journal Sentinel would not even allow me to open the article.
NVA said it best...all part of Barry, Harry and Nan’s plan
Anytime! I still have 5 free articles left
Just give ‘em all a raise and let them buy their own health insurance, along with their own car insurance.
Sad. Obama and pals are slowly breaking every major health insurer and their target now is the USA.
All is proceeding according to plan.
Destroy the U.S. healthcare system and within a few years the sheeple will be begging for socialized medicine.
That’s what we did when we went with Assurant. Now Assurant is shutting down. Some of them are uninsurable because of pre-existing conditions.
Seriously, that's a BIG blow to the area's economy..those are good paying jobs, for the most part..
AAnd it’s almost May when the count begins again! LOLOLOL
Why don’t they borrow money from the Clinton Foundation?
This is an INTENDED CONSEQUENCE of Obamacare.
Bump
That was the plan along destroy many Insurance carriers as Possible, Get it down to as few as possible than they go broke too. Th Government wants everyone to be with United HealthCare as advocated by the AARP and and associate of AARP. Get rid of the small pharmacies in he US and hopefully Walgreens and Walmart will be the only pharmacies throughout the USA. Thanks Odumbass for nothing. It is sad to see this happen in Milwaukee 1200 people out of work. Milwaukee had survived the Odumbo recession pretty good so far, now comes some hardtimes.
I thought that obamacare took care of the “pre-existing contisions” thingee.
We went with Assurant before Obamacare was conceived. Previously I said that we’d been with them at least 5 years, but it has been more like 8 years.
Their brokers found policies for all of our employees who needed them at rates ranging between 1/4 to 1/2 the price of our former United Heealthcare policy. We are a very small company, and other insurers could not offer us anything reasonable, especially if the worker was over 50.
We gave them all raises to cover their costs and cut them loose.
