NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) After concerns about Listeria contamination, Blue Bell Ice Cream has voluntarily recalled ALL of its products currently on the market. The recall includes ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks made at all of its facilities.
A press release from the Brenham, Texas-based company say the products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
In the statement Blue Bell CEO and president Paul Kruse said, Were committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we can be confident that they are all safe.

Seems likely. Where are they getting their milk ?
Listeria is found in grazing areas, stale water supplies and poorly prepared animal feed. It can live in the intestines of humans, animals, and birds for long periods of time without causing infection and has been found in up to 5% or more of normal healthy people, usually in the gut. For this reason, exposure to the bacterium is unavoidable.
I don't think Blue Bell is unionized. They are from Brenham, Texas.
Blue Bell is not a public company; there is no stock to buy. The Kruse family continues to own the creamery, which was started in an abandoned cotton gin in Brenham, Texas, in 1907 as the Brenham Creamery.

The problem is most likely contaminated eggs.
Blue Bell is the best ice cream on the planet - bar none. The homemade vanilla is quite addictive. Some time ago I could eat nearly a half gallon a week. Needed to get that out of the way before the next remark which is kinda funny in a way in view of their current problems.
Once, a number of years ago, when talking with a colleague about how good/addictive Blue Bell was he remarked “You know Blue Bell has killed more people than Marlboro.”
Listeria histeria!
Better than
Food Poisoning!
Braum’s has been an agricultural success study for a long time. It seems to be a good business model and I wish the success. The store in my home town in Eastern Oklahoma is always hopping.
It has been good to see the heirs behave as the patriarch. Braum’s has not changed much in 35 years from the times I took my toddler for his favorite cherry limeade on second street in Edmond. Saturday was always our day to go to the office, get the drilling reports early, Classen Grill for breakfast, the park, the zoo, the discovery center, train shop whatever and then Braum’s for late lunch on the way home. Good traditions make good times and good memories and good children.
Blue Bell is not ice cream, Blue Bell is ice milk

Full Definition of ICE CREAM
:a sweet flavored frozen food containing cream or butterfat and usually eggs
Now lets look at the list of ingredients for a real ice cream Haaden Dazs
Haaden Dazs ingredients
cream, skim milk, sugar, egg yolks, vanilla extract
Notice cream is the first ingredient which means that the ice cream is mostly made with cream not milk. Blue Bell is mostly made with milk not cream, ergo it is ice milk, not ice cream. Ben and Jerry ice cream is also ice cream. Dido Baskin-Robbins.
Miss one of my fav Blue Bell flavors—haven’t seen it in a while, Cherry Almond: cherry flavored ice cream with a almond toffee crunch. Love Banana Pudding too—and... this could go on and on...
It’s interesting. I hadn’t even heard of Blue Bell until now.
I’m an sorry this is happening. I hope the company can survive this. It probably can.
At any rate, thanks for your comments about what the brand means to your family. I’m sure they are very happy to have good loyal customers like you.
Just pulling your leg.
I would have had it half eaten before reaching home.
No. It grows best at ~37C. The closer to that temp the better it grows.
Like all bacteria it's growth is retarded by cold temperatures. It is, however, more resistant to cold than many other pathogens. It will grow in normal refrigeration temps and can survive even deep freezing.
Never tried it. I stick with the usual vanilla, strawberry or chocolate. They are so excellent, it’s hard to believe any of their flavors are not excellent.
If there is the possibility that an ingredient is contaminated at a warehouse you throw everything out.
You find a sack of dried milk for example that has been peed on by a rat you have to assume that every plant supplied by the warehouse got contaminated goods.
Remember the peanut contamination? We did not buy from them but we bought from the plant that made the candy bit, who bought from the company who made the candy, who sometimes bought from one of those plants.
So we had to throw everything out.
With food it is worst case scenario every time.
There’s a popular ice cream place in Scottsdale that serves Blue Bell ice cream called the Sugar Bowl - the Pecans and Pralines is out of this world.
Can we still blame it on Bush?
Yes, people can eat their Hagan, ect, but if I buy Blue Bell Cookies & Cream, (which was first made by Blue Bell) the entire container is empty in less than one day, my kids love it that much. I have bought the other stuff and it usually sits in the freezer.
Have you tried their Pecan Pralines ‘n Cream? I’ve had Pralines and Cream ice cream from all over for years and it’s the best I’ve ever had.
It happens, but it’s not the end of the world. They’ll disinfect the plant, test it to make sure it’s gone, and go back into production.
The voluntary recall is a good thing.
