NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) After concerns about Listeria contamination, Blue Bell Ice Cream has voluntarily recalled ALL of its products currently on the market. The recall includes ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks made at all of its facilities.
A press release from the Brenham, Texas-based company say the products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
In the statement Blue Bell CEO and president Paul Kruse said, Were committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we can be confident that they are all safe.

Actually, I’m in the den. Mocha Almond Fudge half gallon purchased a couple of weeks ago. Mmmmmm.
I walked into the local Tom Thumb a few hours ago and they were empty the shelves of a brand new order received earlier today. I tried to bargain with the guy but no go. His comment was the company had to be bleeding money with this second recall. If they close, it will be a dark day in Texas!
I’m supposed to believe you purchased a half gallon of Mocha Almond Fudge a couple weeks ago and you’re just now scarfing it?
Sounds a bit far fetched Bubbette.
“Yikes. Not a good thing to happen to the little creamery in Brenham.”
I have been a Blue Bell Fanatic for many years. Some years ago when travelling through Texas on business, I stopped at the ‘little creamery in Brenham’ for samples and a tour. To this day, I will go out of my way for Blue Bell ice cream...my favorite - Buttered Pecan! I rate any other ice cream by their buttered pecan...and I have never found another to measure up to Blue Bell!
Could be issue with supplier. They may be in different states but they likely use ingredients from the same source.
If the plants have a common supplier for some of the ingredients it could hit different plants in different states. If they do not have a common supplier, we are talking sabatoge.
The commom vector for listeria is contaminated milk. That milk would have been tested and Blue Bell would have certainly went back to their suppliers of milk as would the FDA and Texas Board of Health.
Something stinks about this.
I thought that freezing, or boiling temperatures killed food born bacteria????
Never understood the appeal of Blue Bell. Their mint chocolate chip tastes like soap.
You're like my youngest daughter. Every time she comes to visit, her last stop before heading home to San Antonio is at Braum's -- for a double-dip butter pecan cone.
I used to do their advertising and know how the old man felt about his product. It was going to be the best they could make it and he would sell it for the least they could afford. All the fresh milk comes from the herd in Tuttle, while they bought all the milk for ice cream.
The second generation is now in charge and they are evidently still following the old man's philosophy.
Interesting story: I was at the plant one day when we heard a loud metallic shriek, followed by an explosive POW!!! We ran out to the truck dock, where we found that somebody had attached the high-pressure pump to the valve on the bottom of a milk tanker, but forgot to open the vent at the top. It was a strange sight -- the stainless steel milk tanker was literally flat as a pancake.
It’s amazing how much damage even a small pump can do. Haven’t seen it happen but have seen the end result: stainless steel crumpled like paper.
“OMG. The best ice cream in the world. What a horrible thing to happen to this little creamery in Texas!”
Well, I’m sure it’s good stuff, but I’ve never had better ice cream than you get at The Petaluma Creamery in Petaluma, CA. They don’t market it in stores, so you have to go there in person. I’ve never been able to get beyond their Lavender and Meyer Lemon ice creams. The woman who runs the place takes the lavender from her place, ditto the Meyer lemons! The stuff is just off the hook good! Their big play is gourmet cheese, the ice cream is just a sideline. All hand-packed while you wait.

You mean empty containers? This is awful.
So how do we know it wasn’t some executive decision affecting all plants? Something like a bean-counter saying the company could save money by increasing raw cream storage temperatures. Affecting all plants says “management error” to me.
Question: Blue Bell and Blue Bunny are not associated with each other are they????
NOT even close except for the word BLUE.
I’d be looking for Ragheads at the Blue Bell Factories to start with...
Last week, the prevailing thought was that it was confined to the plant in Broken Arrow OK. I had a meeting with a knowledgeable economic development person who had visited that plant that day. Let’s just say the clean-up was continuing with all hands involved and the light was not yet visible at the end of the tunnel. They were working to eliminate all possible sources of any lingering bacteria.
The shutdown of every facility is nearly unprecedented, maybe back to the Tylenol tampering, in my memory anyway. It appears the Blue Bell people are using what was learned by McNeil (Tylenol) on how to handle such problems.
Recalls happen all the time, almost weekly in the food industry. Anything that is not fully cooked after buying it is a potential risk because microbes are everywhere. What is most unsafe are raw fruits and vegetables.
Sounds like they are more worried about safety than the bottom line - good on them - - I like their products.
