An aluminum-ion battery consists of two electrodes: a negatively charged anode made of aluminum and a positively charged cathode.

New Flash!

ALL batteries have two electrodes - an anode and a cathode.

Probably a stupid question, but given the recent excitement over graphENE, I wonder if they’ve looked at that vs. graphITE?

Will the battery give the electric cars a range better than 250 miles??

“I see this as a new battery in its early days. It’s quite exciting.”

Me too!

Thank you.

I want one configured for my Canon DSLR...one for my Flash Unit...and One for My Phone

Id bet that as they now exist they could be configured to run together, providing a rapid charge battery PACK for my Electric Bike !

"Our rechargeable aluminum battery generates about two volts of electricity. That's higher than anyone has achieved with aluminum."

I think that sentence needs an "else" after "anyone". Otherwise it is self-negating.

...lithium-ion batteries, which occasionally burst into flames...

Hey, as long as it’s only occasionally...

I think that a 200 mile range with a recharge time of 15 minutes would be a winner.

Two volts? So two in series = 4 volts, right?

And four in series = 8 volts.

Six would work for a car battery.

This could also be huge for solar power systems in the home.

With longer lasting batteries scenes like this may be a thing of the past:

replace existing storage devices, such as alkaline batteries, which are bad for the environment...”

Here it comes again. Batteries will go the way of light bulbs. They told us mercury was dangerous, and got us to stop eating tuna fish for awhile. Now, mercury hangs above our heads in the new, better bulbs.

But someone stands to make a killing on this.
