A reader called us early this morning to report a mass gathering police vehicles at the bottom of Friday Ridge Road, just east of Willow Creek and right near the Humboldt County/Trinity County border. The caller estimated that there were approximately 25 police units in all, representing the California Highway Patrol, the Trinity County Sheriff's Office and others.
Calls to the Trinity County Sheriff's office and the Weaverville office of the CHP this morning were fruitless. The people who answered the phones said they knew nothing of any big raids underway. The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office assured us that neither they nor the Humboldt County Drug Task Force knew anything about it.
Then, just after noon, a LoCO reader in Salyer informed us that just such a convoy had descended on a location in that town with guns drawn. "I was mowing a lawn across the highway when I saw it happening," he said. This reader -- a LoCO-verified trusted source -- said that there were definitely federal agents up in the mix, but that he could not be sure which agency they represented. He sent us the photos included here.
We'll try to get more information when someone in Weaverville who can be expected to know what's happening picks up the phone.
Busting some poor schmuck for trying to grow his own marijuana.
This is the Emerald Triangle area of California. An area of lots of illegal pot growing operations in the woods. I would assume that is what this is.Course it could be a blood thirsty cult of Amish
Freegards
LEX
That there is marijuana growing country.
Yeah, the government doesn’t like competition and not getting their ‘cut’.........................
The cultivation of green herbs ought to be beneath the dignity of government to regulate.
But apparently nothing is beneath the dignity of the current bunch.
Imho.
Looks like they’re busting a UPS guy................
Just Fund Raising, nothing more.
Taxes. It all about taxes.....................
Do what you do but don’t get in my way come
June when I go racing thru there on the way
to McKinleyville for our annual emergency
salmon fishing trip.
“The cultivation of green herbs ought to be beneath the dignity of government to regulate.”
They need the money. When marijuana was $30 an ounce, it WAS beneath the dignity of the government. They were growing it everywhere in Watauga County in NC and you never saw busts of any kind.
“That there is marijuana growing country.”
Is and has been for more than 40 years that I am aware of.
(I know! Bad grammar)
That said, spend some time on Google maps satellite view following dirt roads into the hills and it's amazing what you'll see.
It’s beautiful up there.
Legalization in Washington State did the opposite. As soon as the ballot initiative passed the government put together the governing legislation that resulted in a three stage operating process whereby growers must sell to packagers who then in turn must sell to retailers.
At each stage of transfer there is a 25% tax on the gross and then there is the final 9.5% retail sales tax, too. Of course, black market producers see none of these financial burdens, so consumers are seeking them out.
Nobody is growing anything in March.
I’m growing spinach, lettuce, carrots, and garlic.
Tubebender, isn’t this located in your neck of the woods?
I’ll get back to ya as soon as I check the back 40 ~
Well their just lucky their where no small children in cribs to be blown up by flash bangs. If the Sheriff here in GA even thinks you have weed your baby’s get burned up.
