David H. Petraeus, the best-known military commander of his generation, has reached a plea deal with the Justice Department and admitted providing his highly classified journals to a mistress when he was the director of the C.I.A.
Mr. Petraeus has agreed to plead guilty to one count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material, a misdemeanor. He is eligible for up to one year in prison but prosecutors will recommend a sentence of probation for two years and a $40,000 fine.
The plea deal completes a spectacular fall for Mr. Petraeus, a retired four-star general who was once discussed as a possible candidate for vice president or even president. He led the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and was the architect of a counterinsurgency strategy that at one time seemed a model for future warfare.
But the deal also ends two years of uncertainty and allows Mr. Petraeus to focus on his lucrative post-government career as a partner in a private equity firm and a worldwide speaker on national security issues. Even while under investigation, he has advised the White House on Iraq and terrorism issues.
The mistress, Paula Broadwell, is a former Army Reserve officer who had an affair with Mr. Petraeus in 2011, when she was interviewing him for a biography, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.

Yes, he did.
Berger pled guilty to unauthorized removal and retention of classified material and he was sentenced to a fine and a three-year suspension of his security clearance.
While the General was clearly wrong, I can understand his circumstance. She’s an attractive and intelligent woman.
Sadly the outcome is favorable to Caliph Obama and POTUS #45.
See post #20.
Republican men don’t have horrible lapses of judgement when it comes to women? I beg to disagree.
I am reminded of a quote by Chris Rock: “A man is only as faithful as his options allow.” LOL.. I say that in jest.
Selective Prosecution R Us.
Samuel Francis argued that the problems of managerial state extend to issues of crime and justice. In 1992, he introduced the word anarcho-tyranny into the paleocon vocabulary. He once defined it this way: we refuse to control real criminals (that's the anarchy) so we control the innocent (that's the tyranny). Francis argued that this situation extends across the U.S. and Europe. While the government functions normally, violent crime remains a constant, creating a climate of fear (anarchy). He says that laws that are supposed to protect ordinary citizens against ordinary criminals routinely go unenforced, even though the state is perfectly capable of doing so. While this problem rages on, government elites concentrate their interests on law-abiding citizens. In fact, Middle America winds up on the receiving end of both anarchy and tyranny.
Eric Holder & "Fast And Furious", Lois Lerner & the targeting of the Tea Party. No prosecutions.
I think I smell the same rat...
How does he get in with KKR - the first of his kind?
I smell quid pro quo....for what? No blabbing on O’bozo?
Sandy Berger stole classified documents and history to protect Clinton. What penalty did he pay?

I am finding very strange things inadvertently
In my pants...in my pants
I do not know how they got there...don’t be asking me
In my pants...in my pants
There’s an anvil and a chainsaw and a rat that died
Oh, how funny...there’s some papers that say CLASSIFIED
There is little room left in there for my private parts
In my pants...in my pants...in my pants...in my pants, etc.
Sorry, she does not look like a $40,000 piece of ass to me.
Pride goeth before a fall.
She is a whackadoo
Broadwell is married to Dr. Scott Broadwell, an interventional radiologist who graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1996.[4] They reside in Charlotte, North Carolina, and have two young sons.[31]The couple met in 2000, when they were both active duty US Army captains. Scott Broadwell was then a physician and commander of the Mannheim military clinic in Germany. Paula Kranz was in military intelligence. They were married in Heidelberg Castle, with Lt. Col. Ronald Leininger, a Protestant Army chaplain, officiating.[39]
Didn’t Hillary say Betrayus for Patreus? Now Hillary is caught having unsecure e-mails as Sec. of State. Do they all lie to us?
He’s too good for her.
Petreaus gave classified documents to someone with a valid security clearance that allowed her access to those documents. She happened to be his mistress who was writing a book designed to advance his political fortunes. If everyone in Washington did this, real estate prices in D.C. would completely collapse.
When I got back from a White House mission to Bosnia during the Dayton Accords discussions, I got a call from James Schlesinger, the former Secretary of Defense. He wanted to meet and discuss my recent adventures. I told him that I would be happy to meet with him, but that the Departments of Defense and State, along with the White House would have to know of our meeting and that I would comply with whatever restrictions they might impose. The meeting never happened and he was quite confused that I refused to play the Washington game of insider info sharing. Stupid, naive, hayseed were his thoughts, I’m sure.
Petreaus played a dangerous game, but he was smacked down because he was perceived to be a threat to Obama, and that problem has been dealt with. He’s not a threat anymore.
Yep, pretty much the same one. $50K fine and some community service, probation, loss of security clearance.

This has the makings of a good movie, but Hollywood will screw it all up.
It’s interesting that the “classified documents” were five black notebooks with handwritten notes, including information that according to one account was classified at a level above Top Secret. The description of these “black books” is a little strange - normally creation of documents that are classifiable are done in a classified environment and even as working papers covers explicitly state the highest level of classification for the contents. It sounds like he just had his handwritten notebooks without portion markings so it would be unclear what was and what was not classified. Huge error in judgment and safekeeping of the documents.
That all being said - hope this is the beginning of the end for the far worse handling of information by the Hildabeast. I can’t imagine the information she received and likely transmitted using unsecure emails won’t ultimately be found to be classified at some level. The classification guides should be available to Congress in some form for their comparison to content as they review the emails.
