A Consistent Life
February 27, 2015
Read:
Daniel 6:1-10 | Bible in a Year:
Numbers 17-19; Mark 6:30-56
While studying the book of Daniel, I was struck by how easily he could have avoided being thrown into the den of lions. Daniels jealous rivals in the government of Babylon laid a trap based on his consistent practice of daily prayer to God (Dan. 6:1-9). Daniel was fully aware of their plot and could have decided to pray privately for a month until things settled down. But that was not the kind of person he was.
When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days (v.10). Daniel did not panic, nor bargain with God. Instead, he continued just as he had done before (v.10 niv). He was not intimidated by the pressure of persecution.
The lesson for me was the power of Daniels life of consistent devotion to the Lord. His strength came from God, whom Daniel wanted to please every day. When a crisis came, Daniel didnt need to change his daily practice to meet it. He simply stayed committed to his God.
Father, I want to stand for You when persecution
comes as Daniel did. Give me that same bold
commitment to pray and not to be ashamed of
knowing You. Help me to live my faith publicly.
God empowers us to stand for Him as we bow to pray.
: Daniel's three friends were thrown into the fiery furnace (Dan. 3), and Daniel was thrown into the lions den (ch. 6). These stories teach us that God is in control, even when it doesnt look like it, and we can trust Him.

I did indeed Sally Forth this morning, as is my custom! Snow began here about 0330-0400, and of course, all local governments immediately panicked. Two-hour delays called in for local schools at about 5:00 a.m. - by 7:00 a.m. they were closing for the day. We had a grand total of about 2" here. There was more to the south - areas in Virginia got up to 10".
Our Federal Government went on two-hour delay with liberal leave and telecommuting allowed.
Net effect on moi - plenty good room on the trains at both ends. I can't believe how sissified this region has become regarding winter weather. I've lived here for 50 years, and I have lived in real winter - Rochester, NY, Chicago, IL - this is just pathetic!

Good evening, henkster...((HUGS))...poor beachy is one of those that gets up WAY before the sun for work. d:o)
And to make matters worse, she who is not pleased with cold weather, is suffering thru the back east COLD and snow and ice.
How are you and winter getting along? We’ve been in a heat wave for a couple weeks with more to come. Snow is almost all gone, and refreezing every night, making skating rinks all over town.

Hi Kathy
Beachy can get up early; not me! I am a nite owl and always have been.
I’ve been watching your weather a bit and you are really having a warm winter. At one point yesterday Barrow was warmer than Indy. It’s unbelievable. Below zero here again tonight. I’m pretty sure we have all your cold. Would you like to have it back? I think we’re done with it thank you.
I’ll bet you’re getting a lot more daylight now, too.
