Eric Lindros has launched a $250,000 defamation lawsuit against former NHL referee Paul Stewart and the Huffington Post, after Stewart wrote a column for the online news website that allegedly made the former Philadelphia Flyers star forward look like a "dickhead."
In documents filed in an Ontario court, Lindros says his reputation has been sullied after Stewart wrote about his poor on-ice relationship with Lindros, which was capped by an incident when Lindros allegedly tore up posters he was asked by Stewart to autograph for a charity.

Isn’t TRUTH a defense in a defamation suite?
Truth, yes it’s supposed to prevail. You’d think Lindros wouldn’t want this aired...unless it is demonstrably libelous.
Lindros is a “dickhead.”
Guess truth hurts. Should never have screwed around with Brindy’s wife.
I wonder how widely known that is.
Since he’s a public figure, he is going to have to prove in court that he is not a “dickhead”. The burden of proof is on him.
I thought Lindros was libel proof. Laws must be different in Canada.
But, you know, he did give $1 million of his money to a concussion related charity.
talk about ‘net’ neutrality..
NHL ping, add others.

Yep. He is a fat headed, dickhead. Imagine being a number one draft pick and then refusing to play for the team that drafted you. Wouldn’t even put the jersey on, on draft day. I see he is still the same baby twenty plus years later.
There were plenty of perfectly legitimate reasons why a hockey star from Ontario wouldn't want to play in Quebec. A language barrier that bordered on hostility was one reason. Confiscatory taxes that are the highest in North America would be another.
Interesting tidbits. Thank you. You have to admit, it was a pathetic display not to put the jersey on and smile. Thousands of players strive to get drafted and this enlarged head is going to dictate who he is going to play for?
The last part of the sentence contradicts the first.
He didn't like the guy so he went out of his way to nail him on everything he could.
This is normally termed official harassment.
He played hockey like one, too.
There are lots of interesting storylines in that whole situation. For what it's worth, the guy who appears a number of times in that video clip for the Quebec Nordiques -- Marcel Aubut -- was really a jerk in his own right. He was instrumental in blocking a sale of the Nordiques in 1987 to a buyer who wanted to move the team out of Quebec, and ended up leading a new ownership group to buy the team for a lot less than the other buyer was offering. He then turned around a few years after the Lindros debacle and sold the team to a buyer who moved them to Denver where they became a dominant power in the NHL in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He may have been the most universally despised man in the province of Quebec after that.
I remember Roger Neilson’s assessment of Eric’s playing tactics: “There’s a major penalty on every shift.” He was fond of spearing opponent’s in the groin.
Is this the same lawyer who became his “butler?” Bobby Clarke’s sarcastic screed about that belongs in the HHOF!
Dang, is this the most recent ice hockey thread? The LA Kings, reigning NHL Stanley Cup Champions are facing dire straits right now, losing to Edmonton 3-1 with about 12 minutes left. A loss may not eliminate the Kings but it will make it very tough for them with 2 more games left.
