en. Rand Paul (R-KY) re-introduced the Civil Rights Voting Restoration Act of 2015 on Friday, a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) that would restore federal voting rights for non-violent, “low-level” ex-offenders.
Sen. Paul explained,
“A criminal record is currently one of the biggest impediments to voting in federal elections. The Civil Rights Voting Restoration Act will reform existing federal law and give low-level ex-offenders another opportunity to vote.”
Non-violent, so-called "low-level" crimes include:
Whether a crime is considered a misdemeanor or felony will depend on a variety of aggravating factors, such as the number of offenses, economic impact, and so on.
Dependent upon the type of conviction, voting rights for ex-offenders also vary from state to state.
For instance, in Maine, the right to vote is never taken away, even when imprisoned.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

I don’t really disagree with the idea that low level and non-recidivist offenders should not be disenfranchised for life. But it’s none of the Federal Government’s business. The states should resolve that on their own.
Rand Paul is a complete idiot when it comes to politics. The only people supporting this loser are IMHO losertarians and low-information/easily duped “conservatives”.
I’m a former felon legal voter and I say the feds need to stay the hell out of it.

Not the biggest fan of Rand Paul and definitely do not think criminals should be voting, but I want ALL gubmints to have as little power as possible. State gubmints are the third most evil entities after the UN and the Federal gubmint.
Another intrusion on what should be a state’s issue.
The constitution says its up to the states.

That's not the problem. I would welcome federal legislation to mandate voter ID for example, states have no right to let illegal aliens vote and it would be entirely appropriate for the federal government to protect the civil right of it's citizens by preventing that.
The problem is this bill would be better titled the "The more votes for democrats act". Paul is a retard like his pappy and fellow travelers.
