Getting Medieval: Let’s leave the Middle Ages out of discussions of modern Islam
National Review ^ | Thomas F. Madden

Posted on 02/09/2015 2:58:45 AM PST by GulliverSwift

The Crusades were not brutal wars of colonial oppression or zealous attempts to spread Christianity by the sword. The First Crusade was called in 1095 by Pope Urban II in response to desperate appeals from the Christians of the Middle East, who had lately been conquered and continued to be persecuted by the Turks. And these were only the latest in more than four centuries of attacks on Christian peoples by Muslim powers. At some point Christianity as a faith and as a culture had to defend itself or else be subsumed by Islam. The work of the Crusader, who put his life at risk and underwent enormous expense, was to save Christian people and restore Christian lands. This was no perversion of Christianity. Christ had commanded his followers to be like the Good Samaritan, hurrying to bind up the wounds of their brother who had been robbed and beaten. This was the same Christ who said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” That is how Crusaders honestly saw themselves following their Christian faith...

Of course, many Christians, like the president, may still consider the Crusades and the Inquisition to be a distortion of their faith. Yet they should at least accept that others can honestly disagree. Protestants and Catholics follow different versions of Christianity, but we would strongly reject a president who tried to tell us which was right. By the same token, the president has even less authority to discern true from distorted Islam. ISIS is barbaric, but there is no denying that its adherents believe they are true followers of Islam.

Excellent article, but it’s a teacup on the conflagration of lies coming from our government schools and the media.

The Muzzies are from a time that makes the medieval age look modern.

Under hope and change facts no longer matter, not with Islam, Gore-Bull Warming, tax policy, or anything. The “facts” are what they tell us they are today, anything we “knew” yesterday that conflicts with today’s “facts” are supposed to go down the memory hole.

Yup.

The ruling elites are completely delusional when it comes to the president's religious leanings.

He can write it, he can say it, they still won't believe it.

When you accept that Obama is a muslim, all things become clear.

You are reading the sentence incorrectly. He is not saying the president is a Christian. Read it again and look at the sentence clauses and structure.

I believe he is a cultural Muslim but also an atheist Marxist. He backs all things islamic and all things marxist. His culturalism can be compared to other agnostics/atheists who’s religious cultural background defines them. Cultural Jews and Christians could be used as a comparison only islamics are violent, nasty and medieval.

You are correct. What a difference a comma makes.

If the comma was absent the implication would be one of Obama being Christian. With a comma present, "many Christians" and "the president" are separate entities.

It’s just a part of how they “do the right thing”...in order to “change the world” and they do it “with a passion”.
