Indiana Conservatives Call for Convention of States
Indiana Daily Student ^ | January 27, 2015

Six months ago, Marty Wood had no interest in politics. His said his
priorities were elsewhere.

But Tuesday night, Wood stood in front of a crowd of his fellow conservatives at the Monroe County Public Library to convince them why the U.S. Constitution needs to be amended.

Wood, a graduate of Purdue University, is the director of the Indiana Coalition for the Convention of States Project, a group that is looking to amend the U.S. Constitution.

But Wood said he is not proposing any specific amendments, just a
convention of the states.

“This project is not proposing anything,” Wood said. “This is all about getting the states in agreement and moving forward to call a convention of states.”

No subject matter is necessary to an application for a state convention to propose amendments.

It is up to us, the American people through our states, to restore the republic!

The left, in a constitution convention setting will cheat and lie and misinform and hijack any convention. Karl Marx and Saul Alinsky will scream louder than civil human beings and totally destroy any such convention and the constitution.

It seems it will have to come down to less talk and more DO. We need to get these scum to obey the CURRENT CONSTITUTION first. Unfortunately this will probably have to come by force.

Why would state legislatures send delegates empowered to cheat . . . and hijack the convention?

I love how they’re both for and against federalism.

UPHOLD the constitution! States rights!
But don’t let the states apply and vote on amendments!

Good point. Obama and Scotus amend the constitution at will, yet some conservatives reject the gift of Article V.

The left has totally ignored the current constitution. Let’s get them to obey that first. The problem is less the constitution and more those who would ignore it...... Including the SCOTUS itself. We need to take back the country first. The time for civil dialogue is after the criminal left has been defeated probably after a less than talk and more of an action conflict

Amendments ? Sure. 1 at a time.

The constitution itself is good. Let’s force the left to abide in it.

How? No such way to “Force” exists, other than feel-good fingerpunching text on the internet.

These amendments are designed to do exactly that. They are structural.

The states get a say in overruling an outrageous Supreme Court decision. The states get a say in overruling economically damaging regulations.

Problem is that all the rulings that we abhor have a purported justification in the Constitution - emanations, penumbras and whatnot.

Language that expressed concepts that the Fathers intended is not understood today. (To give benefit of doubt.) So when a justification is needed, they simply scan the Constitution and pluck out a likely phrase - “equal protection’ for example and declare it to apply and rule the day.

Levin’s suggested amendments are in plain and unambiguous English.

Perhaps an amendment that such wordings at the date of respective ratifications of the Constitution and its amendments are subject to the definitions of respective dictionary dates.

I understand the sentiment behind this. I have listened to Levine at length explain his position.

The one thing I can not get past: if the “politicians”, judges, law enforcement, states, et al do not adhere to current written law, why on earth does any one believe another written law will receive any more adherence? Because we really really mean it this time???

The problem is not the words written on paper. The problem is not having men of honor and conviction in positions to adhere and enforce the current laws. And that my friends goes right to the heart of the populace at large. If we, as a society, will not hold current individuals accountable to uphold the law, it really doesn't matter what any revisions may be.

If in the law the states are allowed final say in voting NO, how can this be ignored?

Because if it is ignored, then we are in complete civil war territory.

To JP, that is a reasonable question, which I addressed in a vanity post here.

Ping to don-o.

I did not intend to say that the problem is inability to comprehend. I do believe that the moral collapse is the prime mover. I also believe that the sin of abortion and targeting of non combatants in war time have caused God’s blessing to be withdrawn.

Where there is no repentance, the people perish.

This is an attempt to do it without resorting to that.

We damn well know how close we are.

I don't disagree with any thing you wrote there. Repeal of 17th should be done 50 years ago and I don't understand how or why any state agreed to relinquish its authority in the first place but they did.

My point still keeps poking me: the responsibility to make it all work rests with the populace not new words on paper. The populace is asleep in front of the TV and just don't care. Unless and until we, or they if you prefer, decide to hold officials accountable to oaths and law it is all for naught because you can't push a rope and there is not enough of us to drag the dead weight.

Suppose the convention takes place, everything occurs exactly as narrated by Levine. If the populace still pays no attention and holds no “officials” accountable it is just more of the same. And to be frank, I see nothing waking the populace until life is so radically changed they can't bear the pain.

The _resident has fired all non-malleable general officers. He is in my mind in the middle of a coup of sorts. The truth will out when his term ends and his dictatorship begins (or not).
