Increased sodium intake was not associated with higher risk of mortality over the course of 10 years in Medicare patients, Andreas P. Kalogeropoulos, MD, MPH, PhD, of Emory University, and colleagues reported in JAMA Internal Medicine.
"There's been a lot of controversy recently about the appropriate dietary sodium intake," Scott Hummel, MD, of the University of Michigan, said in an interview. "Low sodium content in the diet might increase the levels of aldosterone and catecholamines and other so-called neurohormones that might contribute to cardiovascular damage."

I still remember taking salt tablets after football practice and gym in high school.
Not to mention ‘water discipline’. Boy, were we thirsty after working out several hours and running 5 miles.

I’ve always just eaten whatever the hell I want, I’m in my late 30s, and still weigh about what I did when I graduated high school.(mid 170s) Normal blood pressure.
All of this stuff about food, ect is just a bunch of noise to me.
....And I LOVE Salt, but I don’t over do it.

The first salvo by our new death panels.
Next they’ll say adhesive ducks in your shower floor are dumb.
And you should run with scissors.

Duh, low sodium can quickly be fatal to any animal. High sodium, well it will make you very thirsty, but I have never heard of anyone dying from it.
Our bodies know what they need. If you eat to much salt, most of it will get flushed away with your urine, because the body tends not to retain what it doesn’t need.

A diet limited to coffee and cigarettes. The only safe course.
Don't forget generous amounts of at least 100 proof liquor.
I cut back on salt a few years ago and my taste has adjusted. I'm at the point where "normally" salted items like some brands of potato chips are salty to the point of bitterness.

Drink plenty of water. Eat your veggies and lean protein. Make sure you do something that gets your whole body in motion every day. The more processed something is the less you should eat it.
Other then that, listen to your body.
Ignore the rest.

Agreed; I eat what ever I like, whenever I like, as much as I like.
I season my food with salt, pepper and any other thing I like.
As for sugar nothing is as good as a humongous banana split with lots of chocolate syrup and whipped cream and real ice cream. Been doing this all my life, haven't seen a doctor since 1982 and still feel great.

I'm currently on the last day of a 10-day self-imposed diet in which I eliminated meat, fish, poultry, pasta, milk, cheese, butter, bread, pastry, potatoes, corn, alcohol, soda, coffee, tea, and fruit juice - all of the things I like. I've been surviving on fruit (mostly apples, bananas, and grapes), vegetables, Scottish oatmeal, nuts, water, lemon water, and tomato juice, and my daily calorie intake has been about 700-900, probably less than half of my norm. I've lost about five pounds. My only "wobble" was when my son took me to a basketball game and I had some movie-style popcorn.
Somewhat to my surprise, alcohol and soda are the things I've missed the least. Also pasta. I find myself imagining burgers and pizza and even a peanut butter sandwich (I love fat calories).
Also, to my surprise, I was not particularly hungry during this time - IMAGINING good food was far more difficult to deal with than actual hunger. I made no effort to reduce salt intake, but that happened naturally because of what I was eating and not eating.

Ahhh..they changed their tune! Maybe salt really is bad and they are telling you it’s ok, because its better than draining gov’t healthcare and facing the death panels later on!
They want to usher out the baby boomers as fast as they can

Sodium concentrations in the bloodstream are regulated by the adrenal gland. Sodium is an effect not a cause. Sodium in excess of what your adrenal gland regulates will just be removed in your urine by making you pee more.
