U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is reporting for jury duty in Houston.
The Texas Republican reported in for his civic duty this morning at the Jury Assembly building in downtown Houston. He says this is the first time he's ever been summoned.
"I'd actually never been called to jury duty before," Cruz said. "I got the summons and I was happy to come down and do my civic duty."
Cruz encourages others to take the time in the future to attend jury duty.
"I would certainly encourage everyone else when you get a jury summons to come down to participate," Cruz said. "It's like voting. It's part of the responsibilities of the citizen."
Cruz was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012.

What’s the case?...............
Cruz Ping!
Houston’s Lesbo Mayor Annise Parker would have loved him to not show up.
“Ted Cruz setting another fine example. When was the last time that Reid, McConnell, Boehner, Hillary, etc. actually did their civic duty?”
I am in full agreement with you.
Which is exactly why he did show up, I would guess. Isn’t this Mayor the one who wanted copies of the preacher’s sermons to make sure they were not talking negatively about her or the gay lifestyle? This was in November, I think.
The chances that any def lawyer lets the Cruzer on a jury...is about the same that Salma Hayek will dump her billonaire boyfriend and call me for a date.
The last thing a def lawyer wants is a knowledgeable, rational, analytic, and persuasive guy like Ted.
1984 was Reagan's re-election.
He would be fun to watch.
Marxist beeotch.
I dated Salma last weekend, didn’t like her personality.
It varies by state, but where I live, you report, then wait to be called for a case. If you aren’t needed, you go home. It could be a waste of one day, but years ago, you could be required to report every day for a week and still not be called.
That’s in state/local cases. I suppose federal cases are different.
He’ll wind up running for president and the rats will say he didn’t show up for his senate duty.
What votes does DC want him to miss? Which caucuses?
THis week my husband also showed up to do his civic duty.......
....of the many questions he was asked....is if he had bumper stickers and what did they say!
Dude you’re totally my idol!
You’re probably right.
Whoa! He’s trying to be a normal guy. Sure sign he’s running for President.
Gov. Walker better pull some strings and get on that list right quick.
And to Senator Cruz, if I was the lawyer I would so pre-emptorily challenge your *ss and send you back to DC before you even say one damn word:
“Yah, Senator Cruz, I really want a guy smarter than me on this jury.....NOT! You are challenged!”
Of course I’d still send him and Walker money in the primary, but you get the point.
I was dating her last night but ran out of tissues...
This is very commendable of busy Senator Ted Cruz considering only 55% of people summoned for Jury Duty in Harris County (Houston) actually show up on a typical day.
