When I was teaching econ at a mid-west university, there was an op-ed in the local paper that complained that grocery stores in the inner city were charging more than the same chain did in the suburbs. It seemed like a good topic for my students, so I had them "buy" a grocery basket of goods for a family of four in both target areas. On average, the inner city stores had an 11% higher cost than the same basket in the suburbs. Despite some economic benefit accruing to the inner city stores (e.g., lower property taxes, incentives, etc.) totals costs were higher for the inner city. The biggest difference between the two areas: 1) insurance costs, 2) theft. Still, even given the evidence, blacks still wanted to ignore the evidence, blame whitey, and play the victim card.
Sound familiar?

Even if Obama sends him a check?

All businesses should never re-build and move on to places they are wanted—maybe in another state—like Texas. Let Ferguson be a place of ruins—let the people who burned it down—build it—they will not. Let them have to travel across town to buy anything—it serves them right.

About the only viable business in a black community is a pawn shop.

The loss to theft in some stores is astronomical and the consumer pays.

A statue of Brown with the box of Swisher Sweets in his hand would be a good touch—as the “New Civil Rights Hero” on the par with Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King. Now we see why the Civil Rights thing just didn’t work out.

Those who do reopen will find their insurance rates going sky high.
Likely, they will also see an increase in city/county taxes to help pay for the current and future costs-of-doing-business.
It may take years for the area to ever get back to its former self. It may never get back. And the professional s*it stirrers are not helping.

“The same ones that looted would be in asking for credit as soon as the smoke clears.”
See Shelton Lee’s `Do The Right Thing’ where Lee’s character `Mookie’ incites a riot that destroys the pizza parlor where he works.
Then he shows up the next day, his boss sitting on the curb with his head in his heads, and demands his last paycheck.
Saying it’s an odd way of thinking is an understatement.

And I’m sure that the US Justice Department has opened up a hate crime investigation against the owner for failing to rebuild to get looted a 4th time.

Hes probably not covered under insurance either. Yep. You can rebuild the structure and the interior, but the stock isn't free. And given that this is the third time, I have a hunch those premiums might just go up a bit to cover a fourth.
To: SWAMPSNIPER
Smart move. Take the insurance money, pay of any debts and move out of there.

Who would insure him if he did?
