'Its a popular myth, and theres good reason for it, that Muhammad is Britains most popular boys name.
Except that is apparently what the data presented by the website BabyCentre has revealed this morning. These numbers were widely reported, including by the Guardian (we have subsequently updated our news story to make clear that it is a survey and not official national statistics).
The BabyCentre.co.uk names are simply a sample based on 56,157 members of the site who gave birth in 2014. Reporting on this seems to have overlooked that there are comprehensive statistics available from official bodies, although only up to 2013. Those figures show Muhammad was the 15th most popular boys name in England and Wales and the 52nd most popular in Scotland.
The names chosen by a self-selecting group of parents will probably show more about the demographics of the users of that site than the overall trends.'

...and those who are Muslim with names other than Mohammed in its various forms. The “official national” reports are also questionable and dated. At about the end of the 1990s, the U.K. was reporting a lower percentage of Muslims than the U.S.A. The number of mosques in the U.K. was already enormous at the time.
Muslims are buying their way into western countries in enormous numbers—especially countries in Europe.
It is no 1 ONLY if you include variants. Which you can do with any name, which shows up how inane this ‘fact’ is.
One fact is that out of approx. 775000 UK births in 2013, 7400 were named Mohammed or variants. That’s ONE PERCENT of all births.
The idea that this Mohammed is no 1 ‘fact’ means the UK is a conquered Islamic state is a nonsense. no more than the biggest US name being Pedro would mean the US is now a Hispanic state. The UK remains a nation where 96% of the population are NOT Muslims, and only 8% of the population have any ‘ethnic’ origin. And where Muslims aren’t even the largest UK ethnic group.
That's al-Guardian for you. They complain that the Daily Mail hasn't added together the numbers for Ollie and Oliver, Harry and Henry to get their ranking for Muhammad. What they've deliberately ignored is the fact that all Muhammad variants are pronounced the same way and written the same way in the original Arabic. Ollie and Oliver, Harry and Henry are obviously pronounced differently.
Yet they commit an inordinate number of crimes and command a disproportional amount of political will. If western nations had any sense, they would immediately halt immigration of ALL Muslims and start deporting the illegals and troublemakers back to the shitholes they came from.
Mohammad has 3,499,000
Mohammed has 2,887,000
Mohamad has 1,059,000
Total of the Mo’s 7,445,000
WHICH MAKES IT THE MOST POPULAR NAME IN GB!
twisted leftist lies.
Or you could have said: I’m Buddha Buddhism.................
Reminds of the Bill Cosby skit, where he joked that as a boy, he thought his name was "Jesus Christ."
Because his father constantly was yelling at him: "Jesus Christ, stop doing that!" "Jesus Christ, get over here!"
Idiotic. The germ of the myth is that it’s the most common name in LONDON. I hate when idiot “disprove” myths by getting the assertions of the myth wrong.
True, its originally Danish/German.
I don’t quote the CIA. Never even looked at their book.
Erm, there aren’t even close to 7.45 million Muslims in the UK!. Let alone that many men or men called Mohammed.
Where are you getting your figures?.
Firstly, please do not insult other posters.
Second, no the myth has it as the no 1 name in the UK, not just London. Sorry, YOU are the one wrong.
Ooops cut the three zeros off the end of each number.
Still Mo wins.
The Guardian wrote a number of lame excuses against a survey with a very large sample and made claims about “the actual list as it stands.” Follow the link. From the list as printed by The Guardian (”in England and Wales during 2013” does not include Scotland),...
“MUHAMMAD 3,499
MOHAMMED 2,887
MOHAMMAD 1,059”
Total Arabs/Africans named Mohammed, 7,445.
There’s also “IBRAHIM 677.”
That’s a total of 7,445 for the Mohammeds alone, far more than the name that the Guardian placed at number 1 (”OLIVER 6,949”). On top of that, there are probably quite a few U.K. Muslims named “Ollie.”
And remember that Scotland was not included in “the list.”

But like I said, the CIA’s figures from the U.K. are dated.
Germany and Denmark also estimated, each, their Muslim population to be at about 4%.
“Very interesting” (Arte Johnson in “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In”).
Somebody just asserted that Mohammed is the most popular boy’s name in London (East London?), not U.K. as a whole. Interesting that it’s 52nd most popular in Scotland.
Perceptions are so annoying, aren’t they? Anjem Choudary lecturing the Queen, Lord Ahmed & 10,000 angry Muslims surrounding Parliament (threatened), no-go zones for British police, and Shariah courts for Muslimahs.
Then there’s Ms. Stacey Dooley, that breath of fresh air & freedom.
