'Its a popular myth, and theres good reason for it, that Muhammad is Britains most popular boys name.
Except that is apparently what the data presented by the website BabyCentre has revealed this morning. These numbers were widely reported, including by the Guardian (we have subsequently updated our news story to make clear that it is a survey and not official national statistics).
The BabyCentre.co.uk names are simply a sample based on 56,157 members of the site who gave birth in 2014. Reporting on this seems to have overlooked that there are comprehensive statistics available from official bodies, although only up to 2013. Those figures show Muhammad was the 15th most popular boys name in England and Wales and the 52nd most popular in Scotland.
The names chosen by a self-selecting group of parents will probably show more about the demographics of the users of that site than the overall trends.'

Muhammed NOT most popular ...but Mohammad is. You see, different spelling.
On the day that MMuhammed becomes the adult name that is most prevalent, we can stick a fork in the U.K. (besides adding it to the IBM target matrix).
Please, U.K., ditch the muzzies. You really don’t want these idiots anywhere near your excellent military and your top of the line universities.
NOW!
how bout Barack...or Hussein?
True story: About 15 years ago I was insane enough to drive a yellow cab in New York city and one morning I was waiting for an available cab in the garage, and what we use to do is give our hack license to the dispatcher along with a tip so we’d get out of there faster. So while waiting on line I saw this guy in front of me and his hack license said “Islam, Mohammed”. His name was actually Mohammed Islam if you can believe it. So without missing a beat I said to him: “Mohammed Islam? Allow me to introduce myself - Jesus Christianity.” LOL!
There is no we in Mohammad, only ham and mad.
It’s always been a misleading stat because Muslims name their sons Mohammed in far greater numbers than non Muslims name their kids any other name. If all Christian Brits named their songs John...
It isn’t, as this story and posts from the likes of Naturalman1975 have exposed.
I’m Moses Judaism. Good to met you.
What about all the Husseins, Baracks, etc.?
How many heads does 4% of the Brit population equal?
LOL
Don’t criticize them. We ELECTED one of BASTARDS PRESIDENT - TWICE!!!!!!!!!
The spelling mistake was mine. I typed e instead of a.
All these variations rather make my point though.
Thank you.
Add the different spellings of it. Their way is just delusionally ostrich-like.
The three most popular spellings of “Muhambehead” total almost 7500. So it IS the most popular name after all!!!
Who is “WE”?
When you consider the different spellings of Muhamed-Mohamed-Muhammad-etc, it IS the most popular name.
"When all the variations are added together, including Muhammad, Mohammed and Mohammad, the name comes out top with 7,445 counts."
If you do that though, its only fair to add together the variations of other names. For example, Oliver and Ollie (7,749) or Harry and Henry (9,136). We can only wonder why the Daily Mail didnt.
_____________
But it's not quite the same thing, is it? If you name your child "Olyver" or "Hennree" maybe your choice should be lumped in with the regular "Oliver" and "Henry," but "Harry" and "Ollie" represent distinct choices, sort of like "Mahmoud" or "Mehmet" (sort of, roughly, I can't say for sure), so the Daily Mail may not be wrong after all.
OK
They.
